Leftist comedian Jon Stewart recently sat down for an interview with former First Lady Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson on their podcast, and he tried to make her super relatable, only to have the effort backfire when the woman said something completely mind-blowing about her children that made the task all but impossible. She basically said that she doesn’t miss her children.
“You know, the energy and excitement of the kids being around is so incredible,” Stewart said, starting off what would become a rather awkward and cringe-worthy moment. “I don’t –” the former first lady started off, before quickly stating, “I love them. I’m gonna see them tonight for dinner. I love them,” which is where Obama should have left it, but the insatiable hunger of the class A narcissist dwelling inside Michelle wouldn’t allow that to be.
But you know, Barack cried when they went to college. I was like ‘bye, little goodbye,'” Michelle told Stewart during the interview. “Now, Friday nights aren’t wrecked with terror and fear about where are you? Right. You know, I love their emancipation and growth.” Stewart then spoke about how he misses the “job” of parenting.
Stewart said that taking care of his children gave a “meaning and pattern to my life.” Michelle responded, quite happily, “I’m good,” as if to say that she’s just fine not having to deal with her own children, as if they were a horrible burden. She then tells Stewart she has a “wonderful pattern.” Stewart and Michelle’s brother then talk about how much they love their kids’ schedules.
“I love my schedule,” Obama said, adding, “I have a great schedule and it’s all mine. But I think fathers can be that way because you weren’t there from six until nine. You missed a lot of it,” referring to the time Stewart missed out on with his family due to work and career. “I mean, I’ve had so much quality time with my children,” she concluded.
Michelle and Barack have two daughters, Malia, 28, and Sasha. Lots of folks online had thoughts about the strange comments, including Meghan McCain, daughter of deceased Sen. John McCain and former co-host of The View. “I am obsessed with my children. Obsessed with them,” McCain wrote in a post on her X account, according to a report from Yahoo News. She shared that when her daughter started preschool, she bawled her eyes out.
McCain then stated that she fully expects to have serious emotional struggles when her daughter flies from the nest and criticized the former first lady’s perspective, saying it couldn’t be more different than her own. Many other parents jumped into the conversation and shared similar sentiments. One individual stated that they couldn’t understand Obama’s perspective, wishing their own adult child would move back home because they miss them so badly.

Another individual commented that their children are already in their 40s and said they still check in and worry about them. One user said they thought that the worry over their children would stop once they hit 18, however, they learned that the worry and concern doesn’t truly go away, but continues for the rest of your natural life.
