President Donald Trump signed an executive order to shut down the Voice of America news network. The order, which was titled ‘CONTINUING THE REDUCTION OF THE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY,’ slashed funding to VOA, and reports indicate that all employees have been placed on executive leave. The executive order targets a number of agencies and programs that are infamous for wasteful spending and woke values.
Kari Lake, who Trump tapped to lead the VOA, was a strong advocate for this decision. She issued a series of statements about dismantling the rampant waste at the US Agency for Global Media, which oversees the defunct news agency. Inside sources from the Trump admin echoed her conclusions.
Lake issued a video explaining the situation to her constituents. She said, “Hi, America; I’m here in Washington, DC, as a senior advisor for the US Agency for Global Media. I’m working on behalf of you, and President Trump and his administration, and I have been on the job for a couple of weeks now, and I’m horrified by some of the things I’m learning about this agency.”
The agency advisor continued to explain the scope of the waste. She said, “I’m sitting on the 13th floor of a shiny, brand-new skyscraper office building that is costing you, the taxpayer, a fortune. The Biden administration, folks who were running this agency before, right before they left office, signed a brand new lease for this building, a 15-year lease that’s going to cost the taxpayer nearly a quarter of a billion dollars.”
Lake explained how this was a deliberate pattern of overspending. She stated, “Here’s the here’s the kicker: they already have a building that they’re located in that is paid off, that they could have renovated or updated. They chose instead to get us into a lease that’s costing a taxpayer a fortune. I know that every one of you out there is working hard and parting with your tax dollars. You’re expecting it to be used wisely, not misused and mismanaged. ”
She examined the details of the flagrant overspending. She explained, “And I can tell you that this building is a colossal waste of money. Take a look at what’s in this building. Fancy conference rooms with wall-to-wall windows. There are 26 conference rooms, at least. That’s what I’ve counted in this building: there are four bridges to nowhere, massive waterfalls, Italian marble finishes everywhere, leather furnishings, all of this being paid for by the American taxpayer.”
She continued her remarks by making a commitment to change. She said, “And it’s not the only thing we’ve seen. We are seeing grants where they’ve taken the grants and they’ve changed the contracts just days before we got in here to make it find out where the money’s going and what’s happening with these grantees. It was an obvious, obvious sign that they wanted to keep us from finding out anything that we could possibly go in and change and make better for the American taxpayer.

She wrapped up her statement by promising to end this pattern of waste. She concluded, “I want you to know I’m hard at work here in Washington, DC. I’m working to make sure that we are not being built out of our hard-earned dollars, and we’re going to make sure we’re doing everything we can to cancel the Save Money downsize and make sure there’s no misuse of your dollars.”
Kari Lake, whom Trump selected as the next VOA chief, made a series of similar statements on X. Lake found, “Massive national security violations, including spies and terrorist sympathizers and/or supporters infiltrating the agency…Obscene over-spending, including a nearly quarter-of-a-billion-dollar lease for a PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE high-rise that has no broadcasting facilities to meet the needs of the agency and included a $9 million commission to a private real estate agent with connections… [and] $100s-of-millions being spent on fake news companies.”
In another social media post, she listed the kinds of corruption that plague the US Agency for Global Media. She said, “From top-to-bottom, this agency is a giant rot and burden to the American taxpayer—a national security risk for this nation—and irretrievably broken. While there are bright spots within the agency with personnel who are talented and dedicated public servants, this is the exception rather than the rule.”
