As President Joe Biden has passed the torch to Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic ticket, the vice president has come under increased scrutiny given the real prospect of her leading the nation. Harris has faced substantial criticism regarding her ability to communicate in public speaking engagements, as demonstrated by a recent campaign event in Pennsylvania.
The Harris-Walz campaign recently hosted a small event in Pennsylvania, where Harris lectured the audience about the supposed “duality” of Democracy. “Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy. As a democracy, we know, there’s a duality to the nature of democracy,” she said.
Kamala continued to elaborate on the nature of Democracy, which she claims is powerful yet fragile simultaneously. “On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact. What it does for its people to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, their freedom. Incredibly strong, and incredibly fragile,” she said. Subsequently, the vice president has been called out on social media for the speech, which many claim is the latest example of her “word salad” manner of speaking.
Founder of Outkick, Clay Travis, shared the clip on social media, writing, “They took Kamala off the teleprompter today in Pennsylvania. It didn’t go well.” Another person added, “I think we are missing the significance of this clip It shows that even when “off prompter”/ not reading a stump speech, she is still only capable of repeating a stock rant she has said many times before. for example she said the same thing here,” before sharing a past clip where Harris delivered a very similar statement.
In the old clip, Kamala said, “Because when we think about the strength of our democracy, you know, I think that there’s a duality to the nature of democracy. When it’s intact, oh, it’s so strong in terms of what it does to uphold and protect individual rights and freedoms, so strong in its nature and it’s very fragile. It will only be as strong as our willingness to fight for.”
One user blasted Harris for refusing to sufficiently address her policy stances and current issues plaguing America. “So, no policy talk, not what she’s doing to make America better, not her achievements (Because she has none) … Just “democracy” chatter. Try focusing on the issues! She’s planning on winning it without really campaigning. Like Biden,” they said.
“I keep hearing this “incredibly strong” vs “incredibly fragile” rhetoric this weekend. Why are we focusing on the delivery instead of the content? A government that is strong and does the things she claims is not fragile and is not democratic,” another person said, offering similar critiques of Harris.

Many have expressed doubt about Kamala Harris’ ability to engage with hard-hitting questions in unscripted interviews or press conferences, as evidenced by this incident. Former President Trump recently claimed, “They also said Kamala is going to do it … she can’t talk to people, she can’t answer questions. She hasn’t done one interview. She’s not doing any interviews, because she if she did one interview where hard questions asked, she’s incapable of answering.”
