In a very fun and heartwarming new video created and posted by 17-yer-old Kai Trump, granddaughter of President-elect Donald Trump as part of her vlog (video blog), she showed what it was like watching the SpaceX rocket launch from the private viewing platform and shared some very funny details about her grandpa’s reaction to the rockets.
The video, which began with Kai traveling to the launch site at the SpaceX Starbase in Brownsville, South Texas, shows her and the other Trump family members joining SpaceX founder Elon Musk in a private viewing area with a buffet from which they can watch the latest test flight of SpaceX’s Starship rocket.
At one point, Elon tells the president-elect, “We had some concerns about the tower, so it was commanded to land out at sea,” speaking of the Starship rocket that previously had been caught by “chopstick” arms on land so that it can be reused. Trump replied and commented on the whole process and technology, saying, “Amazing, amazing.”
Then, posing a question about what that ocean landing means for the company and its high-tech rocket booster, Trump asked if the booster could be reused after it crashes into the ocean. He asked, referring to the booster that would be landing in the ocean, “Can they use that again? Can they get it from the sea?”
Musk then told him that it would probably be blown up, not reused, saying, “It’s going to be… probably blow up, it’s probably going to blow up, that’s my guess.” He added, commenting on why that wasn’t a big deal for the rocket company, “We have better versions, which are in production in those factories over there.”
Musk also revealed that his company has a contingency in place for if the rocket booster doesn’t blow up as intended, saying that in such a case the booster can be recovered by the company, which will examine it. He said, “If it doesn’t blow up, we do have ships to try to bring it back and then we can expect it to learn more.”
At another point in the heartwarming video, Kai says she asked her grandpa if he would get in the rocket, which made a humongous noise when it launched, and he said he wouldn’t. She said, “I’ve never seen something like that, and the noise of it when it was going up, insane. I asked Grandpa, ‘Would you go in it?’ and he goes, ‘No’ [laugh].”
In yet another funny moment from SpaceX’s magnificent Starship launch that Kai caught on tape, she asked Musk, known for his love of certain video games, “Did you ever play Fortnite?” He told her “no,” but then added that he did “a bunch of other first-person shooters.” He also joked, referring to the potential he might get quite addicted, “If I started playing League it would damage the space program.”
