Speaking during a horrendous appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, former MSNBC host Joy Reid wondered out loud whether Vice President JD Vance will divorce his Indian American wife, Usha Vance, and marry someone like Erika Kirk ahead of the 2028 election to better appeal to MAGA, a horrible attack on Vance, his supporters, and his wife.
As background, JD Vance is seen by many as the heir-apparent to President Donald Trump because he is one of the few consistently MAGA politicians, and, as a result, has largely won the trust and respect of the MAGA base. His background growing in the Rust Belt, becoming a Marine, and launching a successful career all help him as well, as he largely embodies the American Dream.
As such, he is facing growing attacks both from the left, which fears his rise, and the neo-conservative lobby, which is apparently furious that such a man who is largely skeptical of interventions abroad could be the future of the Republican Party, rather than a warmonger like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
Reid joined in the pile-on of attacks against VP Vance, attacking his wife and marriage as a way of insisting that he is a Machiavellian political schemer and his base is composed of racists who won’t vote for him unless he leaves his wife, none of which is true.
In any case, she said, in her horrible and tiresome screed against VP Vance, “They can’t have the successor to MAGA be the guy with the Brown Hindu wife. They’re also Christian nationalists. That ain’t going to work. That’s why he’s throwing his wife under the bus. Poor Usha. Or she’s in on it.”
Chiming in in an awful way, the show’s co-host, Jennifer Welch, chimed in and attacked Vance for having given Erika Kirk, the widowed wife of murdered Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, a brief hug during an event, saying, “Playing slap and tickle with Erika Kirk, it’s the weirdest s— I’ve ever seen. She’s like in her Tammy Faye era.”
Reid, chiming in, snapped, “Holding on the back of his head and rubbing on his head,” going on to maintain that she would be suspicious if someone hugged her husband like that, ignoring that all that happened was Kirk giving Vance a brief and heartfelt hug when thinking about her dead husband during a TPUSA event.

Continuing, Reid attacked Erika Kirk for her choice of clothing, attacking her as a bad widow for what she wore. Reid snapped, “You not doing that right thing. [You’re] supposed to be a widow, you in leather pants? That’s not widow wear.”
Still not done, Reid then insisted that Vance might discard Usha in favor of Erika, saying, “Wouldn’t it be the most perfect fairy tale, MAGA fairy tale, if he finally sees the light that he needs a White queen instead of this Brown Hindu? I mean, I’m not saying that’s happening, or maybe that Usha is not even in on it.”
