Co-host of “The View” Joy Behar recently asserted that Republicans are “Commies” because they are “in bed with the Russians.” Behar seemingly suggested the House UnAmerican Activities Committee would investigate the GOP if it were still operational.
Behar made these allegations during a recent segment of “The View,” known for its liberal takes on hot-button cultural and political issues. She sounded off on Republicans with co-host Whoopi Goldberg over several pieces of footage showing fights with Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Goldberg chimed in, asserting that conservatives are the actual “snowflakes” who become irrationally angry over politicized topics. “I’m discovering that most of the folks on the other side are the snowflakes. They’re the ones that are afraid of information. They’re the ones who are afraid of history. It’s not us. It’s y’all,” she said.
Behar jumped in, suggesting that Republicans are tied to Russia without substantiating this claim. “Why are they in the bed with the Russians?” Behar questioned. “I mean, we grew up in a time when if you were pro-Russia in any way, you were hauled before the HUAC Committee and your life was ruined and you were blacklisted. Now all of a sudden these people are all about Russia. Why are Americans accepting that?” She emphatically stated, “They call the Democrats ‘Commies,’ they’re the Commies!”
Goldberg then claimed Republicans are challenging to understand because “they’ve forgotten that we the people make the decisions about what goes on in this country, and every time they try to usurp that,” she said.
Whoopi then discussed women’s rights, claiming that women in America “didn’t exist” if they weren’t married. She then made the unsubstantiated claim that Republicans wanted to return to such a period. “I was listening to some a book today talking, just talking about women’s rights in the early part of the century and you know, women could do nothing. You had to be married or you didn’t exist,” Goldberg said.
She added, “Why would you want to go back to that? Why are we allowed this? This is the thing I don’t understand why we didn’t get angry or sooner and I know people are angry now because I hear it. But why? Are we going backwards in a way that is not good for the economy? It’s not good for the country.” Watch the comments from Behar and Goldberg below:
“The View” has a reputation among conservatives for making dubious, left-leaning claims about various topics in cultural discourse. The American Tribune reported on comments from co-host Sunny Hostin, who appeared to blame recent natural phenomena such as the solar eclipse, earthquakes, and cicadas on climate change. These remarks highlight a new trend among liberals to quickly climate change on weather events.
“I learned that the cicadas [mispronunciation] are coming,” she said. “Cicadas. For the first time in like 100 years, there’s two different kinds.” Hostin continued, “All those things together, would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists, or something is really going on,” she said.
