In a bombshell House hearing, Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) epically demolished former Secretary of State John Kerry by using his own words against him. During their verbal joust, Perry pointed out the Democrat’s history of climate alarmism and blatant hypocrisy and connected these wild policies to increased consumer costs.
For context, Kerry has long been a figure in Democratic politics, even making a failed bid for the White House in 2004. He served as Obama’s Secretary of State from 2013 to 2017, but during the Biden years, he worked as the first U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
In any case, Perry began by laying a trap for the deep-state Democrat during a July 2023 hearing. He asked Kerry, “In 1997, the Senate voted 95 to zero, including you and then Senator Biden, in favor of the Byrd-Hagel resolution, which resolved that the US shouldn’t cut emissions until China, Mexico, India, Brazil, South Korea, and other developed, so-called Developing nations cut emissions as well. Do you remember that?”
After Kerry replied that he had, the Republicans pounced on the admission. He explained, “Have any of those countries submitted a credible plan to get to net-zero emissions by 2050? Let’s just go with China, India, or Mexico. No? It seems that you have abandoned your position that those other nations would cut emissions before Americans would have to make choices between the groceries on their table and paying for these policies.”
Keeping up the pressure, Perry blasted the failed candidate for his radicalism. He said, “Now, Secretary, in 2015 at the Paris Climate Conference, you said that if all industrial nations go to zero emissions, it wouldn’t be enough. And then, at the White House’s climate day in January of ’21, you said almost 90% of the planet’s emissions come from outside the US. We could go to zero tomorrow, and the problem isn’t solved.”
Continuing the same thought, he added, “And in April ’21, you told The Washington Post that even the US and China going to zero emissions tomorrow won’t solve the climate’s problem. Then, on April 21, you said that global net zero is not enough and that CO2 must be removed from the atmosphere. How much is the correct amount of CO2?”
Humiliating Kerry with his own words, the Republican representative explained the massive cost of Kerry’s radical plans. He said, “In December of 2022, you told The Washington Post we need to remove 1.6 trillion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via direct air capture. The cost for that is about $1,000 per ton or 1.6 quadrillion dollars. Now I said, you said you didn’t know, but since 2015 since the last El Nino, about 500 billion tons have been have been emitted into the atmosphere during that same period of time.”

Building on his point, Rep. Perry said, “In 2015, if you look at the temperature graph. This is from NOAA; the temperature has gone down. Show the next slide. This is from NASA satellite data. Temperature has gone down.”

Concluding the thorough beatdown, Perry tied these radical climate policies to the American voter. He stated, “You want to have the American taxpayers, my constituents, who are having a hard time affording their groceries, paying for a car, buying a new home, and spending 1.6 quadrillion dollars to fix a problem that doesn’t exist, and as a matter of fact, you might be exacerbating because it’s unknown.”
