In a very unintentionally funny incident that followed Vice President JD Vance sounding off on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) during an event with Breitbart News, Rep. Jeffries had a total, spiralling meltdown and whiningly accused the Vice President of lying.
For reference, JD Vance’s comments had to do with a meeting that he and President Trump held with both Jeffries and Schumer back in September, before the government shutdown began on October 1, with Vance joking about how Trump had brought in Trump 2028 hats to catch them offguard, as a troll, and how both Democrats were unserious about fixing the healthcare problem they claimed to want to solve.
Particularly, VP Vance claimed that President Trump offered solutions towards fixing the crisis after noting that Obamacare had messed it up tremendously, which they both refused after having been initially caught off guard by his solutions. Because they refused the offer, Vance claimed, the government shut down.
That set off Jeffries, who appeared on the woke “Good Luck America” political news podcast to discuss it. Freaking out over what Vance claimed, he insisted, “JD Vance is lying. Now I don’t know if he’s just lying or he’s just confused. What actually happened is in the middle of the meeting – and it’s just as evidence of the fact that Donald Trump is both deeply dangerous and deeply unserious at the same period of time – in the middle of the meeting, probably about halfway through, Schumer and I were talking about the need to decisively address the Republican healthcare crisis, beginning with extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits.”
Then, whining about Trump’s assistant bringing in the funny “Trump 2028″ hats, Jeffries said his reaction was to think something was wrong with Trump. He said, describing the moment, “I’m like, something is really wrong with this guy.”
He then said he tried to get Vance to denounce the hat, saying, “And I point at the hat, and he’s like, ‘No comment.’ And then Donald Trump jumps in and says something to the effect of, perhaps he needs some more training. … Then everybody just moves on.”
Continuing to melt down over Vance insisting that he and Schumer had been trolled and been unreasonable in the meeting, Jeffries then claimed, “The only person that got spooked in that meeting was actually JD Vance, ok? Because his boss was saying, well, apparently you ain’t ready for what may come in 2028, and I conveniently pointed that out.”

He concluded, angrily recounting the meaningless and funny hat incident yet further, showing how much it got to him, “The other crazy thing a photographer did randomly show up to try to actually catch a photo, apparently, that could be weaponized against myself. And they clearly – we didn’t touch those hats. They clearly had bad angles, and there was a lack of interest in Schumer and I engaging beyond pressing JD Vance about the Trump 2028 dynamic.”
