Speaking to the media after his speech at the Power House event center in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the same event in which he commented on how President Trump is restoring and rebuilding the American Dream, Vice President JD Vance commented on the massive amount of fraud that has already been discovered in the sanctuary city of Minneapolis, Minnesota and suggested that California will be targeted next for fraud investigations.
As background, it was announced by the Trump Administration in January of 2026 that Vice President Vance is heading an interagency task force that is handling the massive amounts of blue state and sanctuary city fraud that are seemingly being discovered by the day. It began with investigating fraud in the Twin Cities.
Commenting on the fraud in Minnesota, JD Vance revealed that a whopping $19 billion in fraud has been discovered in Minneapolis alone, saying, “You asked about Minnesota, [and] we think that there’s probably been $19 billion at least to fraud just committed in Minneapolis in the surrounding areas.”
Continuing, he got into a story in which he referenced the Quality Learing Center scandal. Beginning, he said, “Let me give you an example of this because it’s not just the American people being defrauded. It’s not just your tax dollars that are being stolen out of your wallet and given to fraudsters.”
Adding to that with a bit of a digression, the vice president noted that those who actually need services aren’t getting them thanks to the fraudsters, saying, “It’s the fact that the services we need to deliver to needy people are not getting delivered because they’re going to fraudsters.”
Then, getting to his line about the Learing Center, the VP said, “When you have a Somali fraudster come into the United States illegally and then set up a school to collect tax dollars, and the name of the school is the Quality Learning Center, but when they put the sign up, they take the ‘n’ out. So, it says ‘Quality Learing Center.’”
Concluding that story, JD Vance explained that such a group should not be funded by the American taxpayer, saying, “I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to send my kids to a school where they can’t spell ‘learn.’ That group was getting millions of dollars from the American taxpayer.”

Later, when asked about the fraud matter by Fox News Digital, JD Vance argued that California is known to be full of fraud and suggested that it is next on the chopping block. He said, “We know there’s a lot of fraud in California, and we’re trying to get to the bottom of exactly what it looks like and what we’ve done in the Trump administration.”
Continuing on that point, the vice president argued that President Trump has unleashed the administration on fraud, saying, “And the president has really empowered us to do this, is to take the first national look at the way the American people have been defrauded over many, many years.”

Speaking to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Gov. Newsom insisted, “In the actual world where adults govern, Gavin Newsom has been cleaning house. Since taking office, he’s blocked over $125 billion in fraud, arrested criminal parasites leaching off of taxpayers and protected taxpayers from the exact kind of scam artists Trump celebrates, excuses and pardons.
Continuing, that spokesperson added, “Gavin Newsom runs a state. Donald Trump runs his mouth. Again and again, we’ve shown that the programs they are attempting to call out are programs the federal government is administering, not the state. We suggest they get their house in order.”
