Country music superstar Jason Aldean just waded right back into the culture war with his latest music video, this one for his hit song “Try That In a Small Town.” The new song, a hit single, is heavily critical of both the left-wing riots that swept the country in 2020 and the soft-on-crime policies that enabled those riots and have empowered criminals in the nation’s big cities.
The powerful video shows Aldean and the members of his band performing the song as footage and photos from the riots cut in and out of the song. Most of the footage is real footage from the riots, showing rioters throwing Molotov cocktail fire bombs at the police, starting fires, and spitting on officers.
The song’s lyrics call out the despicable behavior of America’s would-be revolutionaries and note that such activity would lead to a different end in a small town than a big city. One part of the song, for example, goes, “Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk, carjack an old lady at a red light. Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store /Ya think it’s cool, well, act a fool if ya like. / Cuss out a cop, spit in his face. Stomp on the flag and light it up. Yeah, ya think you’re tough. / Well, try that in a small town. See how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own. You cross that line, it won’t take long. For you to find out, I recommend you don’t. Try that in a small town.”
Another part of the song calls out leftist attempts to confiscate guns and insists that such policies would end quite poorly for those doing the confiscating in small towns, saying, “Got a gun that my granddad gave me. They say one day they’re gonna round up. Well, that shit might fly in the city, good luck. / Try that in a small town. See how far ya make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own. You cross that line, it won’t take long. For you to find out, I recommend you don’t. Try that in a small town.”
The video ends with farmers helping out a colleague in such a small town whose crops were not growing properly, with a newscaster saying in the background, “A friend is in need, and they’ve come to help. It’s what this community and a lot of farm communities stand for. Somebody needs some help, you get it.”

This is far from Aldean’s first time wading into politics. In another video, this one released last year, he and his wife Brittany mocked news personalities. One of their famous lines from the skit was, “We are 80% of the time unbiased 100% of the time.”
Further, Brittany Aldean joined in the anit-Balenciaga outrage after that company’s creepy advertisements involving children, getting rid of all her apparel from that company in protest of its horrific advertisements.
