In a wild video that quickly took the internet by storm, former FBI Director James Comey, who is currently under fire for his alleged involvement in the 2016-17 Russiagate scandal, announced that he is a “Swiftie,” or fan of pop music star Taylor Swift, and used that as a means by which he attacked President Trump. Predictably, he was roasted for the lengthy, bizarre video.
In the very odd video at issue, former FBI Director James Comey declared to the internet that he listens to Swift’s songs when doing chores and is in a “Swiftie” group chat, saying, “I’m in a family’s Switie group chat. I know all her music and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass.”
Continuing, he declared that his “Swiftie” family loves her songs because they help them deal with “adversity,” saying, “Taylor Swift has grown up with my family and provided us a soundtrack, really, as we’ve grown ourselves and learned and adapted and dealt with adversity and celebration.”
Comey then declared that Swift’s musical example helps him resist “bullies” like President Trump, but he doesn’t want the Democrats to turn into “bullies” like MAGA Americans. He said, “I don’t want us to become like Trump and his followers. There are far more decent, honest, kind people in America than there are mean jerks…so few Americans support Donald Trump.”
Still not done with that, Comey said, “I am not an advocate for weakness. Of course, we need to stand up to jerks and defend what matters, but I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them, which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift. She’s made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is. Last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him.”
Then, getting angry about Trump’s pro-Sydney Sweeney joke at Taylor Swift’s expense, Comey said, “Of course, we’re now living with the consequences of that mistake. But while our elderly makeup-covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he can’t stand her, what’s she doing? Living her best life, producing great music and, as she urged all of us to do during the podcast, not giving the jerks power over her mind.”
Even more bizarrely, Comey then started singing from Swift’s famous “why you gotta be so mean” song, “Mean,” singing, “I bet you got pushed around. Somebody made you cold. But the cycle ends right now, because you can’t leave me down that road. You’ll be glad I didn’t sing that. That’s right, because down that road of unhappiness, nobody should have that power over us.”

As could be entirely expected, the video led to immense pushback against Comey from the conservative side of politics online. As Fox News Digital noted, one commenter called it “the creepiest video in the history of social media,” and another wrote, “It’s truly mind-blowing this man served as FBI director.”
Similarly, conservative media figure Benny Johnson joked that the odd video was like a hostage video in format and the content was somehow even weirder. Benny said, “A new James Comey hostage video just dropped. This time he calls himself a “Swiftie” and says Taylor Swift helps him cope with Donald Trump. You really can’t make this up.”
