A Fox News clip reported on Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez, a 59-year-old Colombian illegal immigrant who’s been Boston for over 20 years, convicted in February 2026 of federal crimes including fraudulent voting in the 2024 presidential election using a stolen U.S. identity, aggravated identity theft, passport fraud, and receiving ~$400,000 in stolen benefits, including $259,589 Section 8, $101,257 Social Security disability, and $43,348 in SNAP benefits.
Evidence included a photo of an “I Voted” sticker and ATM surveillance footage. The case fueled debates over voter ID and the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility), with President Trump citing it on Truth Social to argue elections are insecure and push for citizenship proof, stricter rules, and mail-in ballot bans. Critics like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries called the Republican-led bill an attempt to rig the election.
In any case, a local news clip highlighting the scandal began, “A heated battle over voter ID is heating up on Capitol Hill, and a jury just convicted a woman in Massachusetts of voter fraud. Prosecutors say that she also stole more than $400,000 in federal benefits. White House correspondent Aisha has me reporting live from the North Lawn.”
The reporter identified as Aisha stated, “We’re talking about a 59-year-old illegal immigrant who’s been in the country for years, stole someone else’s identity, and then voted in the 2024 presidential election. Take a look at this photo here. This is Lena Maria Rovio Hernandez. In this picture, you can see her, Martha, wearing that I Voted sticker that we all get when we go to cast our ballots.”
“She’s also convicted of stealing $400,000, as you mentioned in benefits, she apparently used her fake identity to update, obtain multiple state IDs, and also a passport,” the same reporter explained to contextualize this major crime.
Building on this point, she noted, “So the President…posted this on Truth Social: ‘America’s elections are rigged, stolen, and a laughing stock all over the world.’ He is calling for voter ID, proof of citizenship, and bans on mail-in ballots, as he supports the Save Act on Capitol Hill.”
Relating these events to a current political controversy, she stated, “That’s a Republican-led voter ID bill that is expected to hit the floor of the House this week. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is claiming the bill is just an attempt by Republicans to rig the midterm elections.”
