WATCH: Ilhan Omar Snaps In Meltdown Over Tom Homan’s Comments about Her, Potential Deportation of Her

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) responded sharply and cursed at a reporter who confronted her over allegations that she married her brother to facilitate an immigration arrangement. The Minnesota Democrat was also pressed about White House border czar Tom Homan’s confirmation that federal investigators are examining the allegations. Omar denied the central claim before saying Homan had been saying “some dumb s—” and directing the comparison at the reporter.

LindellTV reporter Alison Steinberg approached Omar near her congressional office and asked about the investigation and the long-running controversy surrounding her former marriage. The confrontation came days after Homan said Homeland Security Investigations was looking into allegations of immigration and marriage fraud. Homan declined to reveal details about the inquiry but said elected office would not place anyone above federal immigration law.

Steinberg began by invoking Omar’s own claim that nobody stands above the law. “You have said that no one is above the law,” the reporter told the congresswoman before asking whether she believed that principle also applied to her. Omar replied, “I am not above the law.” Steinberg moved directly to the marriage allegation that has followed Omar for years.

“Did you marry your brother?” Steinberg asked the Minnesota Congresswoman, according to footage of the confrontation published by Trending Politics. “Absolutely not,” Omar answered. “What a ridiculous thing to ask. That’s disgusting.” The reporter continued by raising Homan’s public remarks about the federal investigation.

Steinberg asked Omar whether Homan was lying when he said an investigation was underway. “He is,” Omar replied before directing an insult at the reporter. “He’s been saying some dumb s— like you.” LindellTV posted the recorded exchange on September 16th as Steinberg continued attempting to question the congresswoman.

Homan said HSI was continuing to investigate reports involving possible immigration or marriage fraud. During his September 13th Fox News appearance, Homan said, “I know things are going on, but I can’t give specifics of what’s happening.” He emphasized that anyone found to have committed an immigration violation would be subject to the law, regardless of whether that person served in Congress. Homan also said fraud or material misrepresentations during the naturalization process can lead to denaturalization, although federal officials have not announced any such action against Omar.

“HE’S BEEN SAYING SOME DUMB SH*T LIKE YOU.” ILHAN OMAR GOES AFTER TOM HOMAN WHEN CONFRONTED OVER BEING UNDER INVESTIGATION

The allegations concern Omar’s 2009 legal marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen whom critics have claimed is her brother. That marriage ended in divorce in 2017. Omar has denied the alleged familial relationship since at least 2016, previously calling the accusation “absurd and offensive” and dismissing it as part of a collection of “bigoted lies.” No public court finding, DNA result, or official determination has established that Elmi is Omar’s brother. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin nevertheless recently asserted, “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States.”

The controversy received renewed attention after senior Trump administration officials began discussing an active federal inquiry into Omar’s immigration history. Homan confirmed that immigration investigators were examining the reports, while Homeland Security officials have declined to release related records under an exemption covering ongoing enforcement proceedings. The government has not publicly disclosed the evidence being reviewed, the complete scope of the inquiry, or whether federal prosecutors are considering charges. Homan also declined to identify any evidence investigators may possess.

The investigation could carry serious consequences if officials establish that fraud occurred during the process through which Omar or her family obtained citizenship, including the possible loss of citizenship and subsequent removal proceedings. Omar became a U.S. citizen in 2000, nine years before her marriage to Elmi, meaning the marriage allegation alone would not establish that she fraudulently obtained citizenship.

Under federal law, revoking naturalization requires court proceedings and proof that citizenship was illegally procured or obtained through concealment of a material fact or willful misrepresentation. For now, Omar has denied the marriage allegation and called Homan a liar, while federal officials haven’t yet announced any charges or court action against her.
