Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) issued a warning following a fatal shooting that took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, saying that protests across the country would erupt unless the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent involved in the incident is identified and prosecuted, referring to the incident as a “state-sanctioned execution.” In the video of Crockett’s comments, the notorious Texas Democrat also accuses Republicans of turning a blind eye to deadly conduct.
Things got heated during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the topic of bail reform on January 8, 2026, as Democrats took an opportunity to slam the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after the shooting of a woman by an ICE officer took place the day before. Crockett had a meltdown during the hearing, going on to warn fellow lawmakers that protests would pop up all over America if there was not criminal accountability.
“There are gonna be protests around this entire country because of the state-sanctioned execution that we all saw unfold unless there is some kind of justice that takes place, and we get the name of that officer and that officer is prosecuted,” Crockett stated. Her fiery words came amid several sharp exchanges that took place as the committee discussed public safety and bail reform.
According to Fox News, Democrats shifted the focus of the hearing from bail reform to criticism of DHS officials for the shooting and what they perceived as a lack of publicly available information about the officer involved in the shooting. “Long story short, we are sitting in the judiciary and no one on that side of the aisle seems to care that this particular person, whose name we don’t know at this point, became the judge, jury, and executioner,” Crockett added, taking a jab at the GOP. “I don’t know how you square that.”
Crockett then accused Republicans of trying to minimize the incident, claiming they were shielding federal law enforcement from being scrutinized despite receiving calls for transparency. She then stated that officers should be held to the same legal standards as civilians when deadly force is used in a situation. “A child has lost her mom, and y’all want to pretend that it is okay,” Crockett said, appearing to become emotional. “Is there anyone that will stand for the very people that elected us and sent us to Congress?”
As she continued to use words and emotional appeals concerning the victim’s family, reactions could be heard ringing out across the hearing room. The Texas congresswoman referred to the incident as a moral problem that needs to be solved, urging lawmakers to set aside politics in favor of accountability.
“I remember when Charlie Kirk got killed. Do you remember what our response was?” Crockett asked those at the hearing. “Our response wasn’t to sit there and pretend like it was okay.” She then raised questions about law enforcement officers not receiving the same treatment as civilians when deadly force is used. “Is it okay because you have a badge?” she went on to ask. “Because the last time I checked, allegedly no one is above the law. Can y’all not just have a little bit of courage and humanity?”

Crockett then referenced the words of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who delivered a scathing rebuke to ICE after the shooting, telling them to “get the f**k out” of the city. The congresswoman then accused federal immigration officials of bringing crime to the city’s streets. “The mayor of Minneapolis told y’all to get the f— out. Yet y’all are the ones — it is this administration — that is bringing crime to their streets,” she concluded.
