Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt recently stormed off a live stream hosted by the Washington Post after two columnists from the news outlet touted false claims about former President Donald Trump regarding the upcoming election. Hewitt also ended his affiliation with the Washington Post as a columnist after the live stream.
The incident occurred during the WaPo’s “First Look,” in which Hewitt joined two left-wing columnists, Jonathan Capehart and Ruth Marcus, on the “Washington Post Live.” As the conversation addressed election integrity, Capehart suggested that former President Trump was “laying the groundwork for contesting the election by complaining that cheating was taking place in Pennsylvania, by suing Bucks County for alleged irregularities.”
Marcus responded to the assertion, stating, “Yeah, that’s what he’s been laying the groundwork for. This is just not in the last week, but in the last empty of months. No election can be fair unless in Donald Trump’s mind, unless Donald Trump wins it and I think we are going to see him. Both rev up his supporters to contest elections, outside of courtrooms and go to every part where he can, in America, where it’s relevant to make whatever arguments he can no matter how far fetched.”
However, Hewitt offered a rebuttal to these claims. “I just gotta say we’re news people, even though we’re at the opinion section,” he said. “It’s gotta be reported, Bucks County was reversed by the court and instructed to open up extra days because they violated the law and told people to go home. So that lawsuit was brought by the Republican National Committee, and it was successful.”
“The Supreme Court ruled that Glenn Youngkin was successful,” he added, citing Virginia’s retaliation against the Biden-Harris administration’s attempts to block the state from removing non-citizens from its voter rolls. He maintained, “We are news people, even though we have opinions and we have to report the whole story if we bring up part of the story. So yes, he’s upset about Bucks County, but he was right, and he won in court. That’s the story.”
After Capehart retorted that he didn’t “appreciate being lectured about reporting,” Hewitt cut him off, stating, “I won’t come back, Jonathan. I’m done,” Hewitt said. “This is the most unfair election ad I have ever been a part of. You guys are working. That’s fine. I’m done.” The radio host proceeded to get up and walk out of the camera’s view.
Conservative commentator Ian Miles Chong weighed in on the incident, writing on X, “The Washington Post is completely falling apart. Hugh Hewitt got fed up of the lies and disinformation being put out by his fellow journalists about Trump and walked out. There’s at least one guy there who still has a sense of journalistic responsibility to report the truth.”

Elon Musk also commented on the incident, defending Hewitt’s claims that were correct. “Hugh Hewitt is right: there was election interference by the Democrats in Bucks County that was so serious that a judge ordered early voting to be extended several more days!” Musk said.
