In a recently unearthed video, Democratic New York Mayoral candidate and self-described socialist Zohran Mamdani yelled out a series of absurd statements at Tom Homan, Trump’s border Czar, during a protest at the State Capitol in Albany.
The dramatic scene took place on March 13, 2025, when protesters breached the New York State Capitol, where Homan was urging lawmakers to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Several cities in New York are sanctuary cities, which means they will not turn immigrants over to the authorities.
In a dramatic clip which continues to make the rounds online, Zohran Mamdani, a candidate for Mayor of New York City, shouted, “How many more New Yorkers will you detain? How many more New Yorkers without charge? Do you believe in the First Amendment, Tom Homan?
Homan had no mercy for New York lawmakers. He told the assembly, “This is an attack on immigration enforcement, that’s plain what it is. You’re not going to stop us. New York State, you’ve got to change the sanctuary status. If you don’t, get out of the way, we’re going to do our job,” he said. “We’ll double the man-force if we have to. Rather than one officer arresting a bad guy, now I have to send a whole team.
In the dramatic footage, the mob can be heard chanting, “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here.” Others bore signs that bore pro-immigration slogans in either Spanish or English. Protestors clashed with New York State Police who surrounded Tom Homan and members of Trump’s administration.
In a post on social media, the Socialist at the center of this scandal called out Homan in a disrespectful manner. “Today I confronted “border czar” Tom Homan who came to Albany to do Trump’s bidding — push for mass deportations, carry out the assault on working class New Yorkers, and justify the unjustifiable detention of legal permanent resident and father-to-be, Mahmoud Khalil,” he whined.
As we reported, in the months since, Hoamn has continued to criticize the controversial democrat. In a recent statement, he said, “He needs to do his homework when it comes to ICE operations.”
“We don’t do operations at schools, churches, or hospitals. He’s fear-mongering. The bottom line is, he says he wants to uphold city policy; how about upholding the law?”

Building on this point, Homan explained the situation. “The law says it’s a crime to enter this country illegally. It’s a violation of federal law. And it’s a crime to knowingly harbor an illegal alien. So we’re gonna enforce the law. He can stand by and watch, but he’s not going to stop us from doing our operations,” the official declared.

Concluding his comments, Homan made the situation clear, saying, “Because if [Mamdani] wants a sanctuary city, he won’t let us in Rikers Island, then we gotta go into the neighborhood and find ’em, which means we need a lot more people to go into the neighborhood and find the bad guy. When we find that bad guy, if he’s with others who are in the country illegally, they’re coming too. And he’s not gonna stop it. So, he can hate on ICE all he wants, but don’t get in our way.”
