Speaking during a Tuesday, June 9 interview on Newsmax TV’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” with host Rob Schmitt, former Trump advisor and conservative talking head Sebastian Gorka tore into Vice President Kamala Harris, referring to her as a “DEI hire.” The implication was something that many on the right have alleged, which is that VP Harris was not chosen on merit but rather because she is a black woman.
Gorka’s DEI comment came as he and Schmitt discussed the state of the Biden campaign and who is really pulling the strings. Gorka alleged that the donors are the ones in charge. He said, “It’s not up to Joe Biden! When the big donors say ‘You’re not getting a red cent. We are pulling the plug on the campaign,’ then the Democrats are going to say, ‘Joe, what do you want?’”
Continuing, Gorka alleged that Hunter is getting involved in the White House as a way of corruptly rent-seeking of his father’s permission, telling Schmitt, “And right now, you know, Hunter is negotiating. I want a pardon. We want extra bags of cash. You’re going to give us sinecures. The hostage-takers are now negotiating for the presidency.”
Schmitt, for his part, questioned whether the leftist donors really want Kamala in charge or think she’d have a better shot of winning than President Biden. He asked, “I mean, do these donors really think that Kamala Harris is going to do better in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania than Joe Biden would? I mean, that’s the point, because it can’t. It can’t be anybody else, right?”
That’s when Gorka got to the “DEI hire” line, telling Schmitt that Kamala is, in his view, beloved by the left because she fits their DEI checklist. He said, “Rob, you’re being logical. Stop it. All right. She’s a DEI hire, right? She’s a woman! She’s colored! Therefore she’s got to be good. And at least her brain doesn’t literally freeze in mid-sentence.”
Schmitt then asked former acting attorney general Matt Whitaker what he thinks, asking, “Yeah. Matt, your final thoughts? And what do you think about what Sebastian just alleged there?” Whitaker said, “Yeah, I think there’s been some pretty good analysis. And one of the main questions I keep getting is what’s going to happen to the money they’ve raised. And there’s been some analysis on that.”
Watch that here:
Gorka was attacked for his comments by comic D.L. Hughley, who appeared the next day on Wednesday night’s edition of CNN’s Laura Coates Live to discuss the matter. Hughley said, defending Harris and attacking Gorka, “To attack a woman — we can attack her policies, we can attack the things that you do, but her competence is above — is above the pale. We don’t even have that conversation. I guarantee you this, you have never seen a more accomplished and competent and ready vice president. And you know what, I’ll tell you what, I’d rather have a vice president who’s ready to step in than one that somebody tried to hang.”
