In the wake of MAGA fury regarding ongoing firings of American workers at Big Tech companies that are then replaced with offshoring and H-1B visa holder employees, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that she will be introducing a bill to completely dismantle the H-1B visa to protect American workers.
Announcing the move in a post on X, Rep. MTG said, “🚨I am introducing a bill to END the mass replacement of American workers by aggressively phasing out the H1B program. Big Tech, AI giants, hospitals, and industries across the board have abused the H-1B system to cut out our own people.”
Continuing, she said, “Americans are the most talented people in the world, and I have full faith in the American people. I serve Americans only, and I will ALWAYS put Americans first. My bill ELIMINATES the corrupt H-1B program and puts AMERICANS FIRST again in tech, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, and every industry that keeps this country running!! If we want the next generation to have the American Dream, we must stop replacing them and start investing in them. 🇺🇸”
Attached to that tweet was an about two-minute-long video in which Rep. Greene made similar comments about how the H-1B visa dispossesses American workers and explained how it is being used to the detriment of aerage Americans, and then explained how her bill would fix the dire and much-detested situation.
She began by noting that the program has long been characterized by fraud and so she will be dismantling it completely, saying, “My dear fellow Americans, I’m introducing a bill to completely eliminate the H 1b visa program, which has been riddled with fraud and abuse and has been displacing American workers for decades.”
Continuing, she noted that there is one small exception that will be phased out over time, saying, “There will only be one exemption in my bill, and it will allow for a 10,000 per year cap on visas issued to medical professionals like doctors and nurses who provide life-saving care to Americans. However, even this 10,000 per year cap will be phased out over 10 years to allow us time to build our own pipeline of American doctors and physicians.”
In an even more critical part of the clip, she noted that those here on the H-1B visas will be directed to return to their home countries, saying, “My bill will also restore the original intent of the visa for it to be temporary. These visas were intended to fulfill a specialty occupational need at a given time, people should not be allowed to come and live here forever. We thank them for their expertise, but we also wish them well so they may return to their home country.”

Continuing by building on both of her prior points about medical professionals and having the visa-holders return to their home countries, she said, “My bill will take away the pathway to citizenship, forcing visa holders to return home when their visa expires. In order to build our pipeline of American doctors and medical professionals, my bill will also prohibit Medicare-funded residency programs from admitting noncitizen medical students into their programs. Just last year alone, there were over 9000 doctors in the US who graduated from medical school but were left without a residency placement. Meanwhile, in 2023 alone, there were over 5000 foreign-born doctors who received residency spots. This is entirely unfair, and it’s America last.”
Giving yet more details, she said, “My bill will help mitigate the shortage of doctors and nurses in our country, the shortage that we face, while at the same time, serve as an off ramp from our reliance on foreign workers by allowing us time to fill our residency programs with American doctors. Now this will completely end the H1 b visa program in all other sectors, in the job in the job force and in the workforce. This is America first.”
Concluding, MTG said, “It’s time to put American citizens first, instead of foreigners first. And this has gone on, and this has been an abuse for far too long. Americans deserve a future. They deserve a chance. And I believe Americans are the most talented people in the world, the most creative, and I want them to have their American dream. Thank you all.”
