Professional golfer Bubba Watson showed that there’s a pretty strict limit on how long he’ll put up with a fan’s antics, a truth put on full display during the second round of LIV Golf Indianapolis, which was held at The Club located in Chatham Hills. Watson became so heated that he decided to confront the fan and things took a wild turn from there.
Playing alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Lee Westwood in LIV’s season finale, Watson was captured on video going up to a fan who was heard yelling while Westwood was getting ready to approach his shot. The fan shouted, “Bryson, Bryson,” just prior to Westwood stepping off his ball and Watson walking up to him. Watson confronted the person, which resulted in the fan suddenly going silent.
“Oh, you don’t want to say anything now? Say something, I’m looking at ya, say it,” Watson went on to say to the fan. Professional golfers and die-hard fans of the sport have pointed out that many individuals have become too comfortable in recent years thinking that purchasing a ticket to the event comes along with the license to freely heckle the athletes on the green.
As Andrew Powell of The Daily Caller correctly pointed out in his report on the incident, it’s absolutely acceptable for fans to have a good time at golf events, but players still need to concentrate while attempting to make their shots while they are trying to hit a small target while being under intense pressure. Powell noted that this doesn’t mean the game needs to return to “country-club silence,” but fans need to respect the game.
The clip of the confrontation was posted on social media platform X and fans of the game and Bubba had a lot to say about the situation. One individual recounted a hilarious incident from years ago involving Watson’s caddie. “I saw Bubba Watson’s caddie chase a spectator on foot at the WM open years ago,” the person shared.
Another individual pointed out that fans of most sports in the modern era have seemingly forgotten basic politeness and respect for the athletes competing. “Decorum and basic politeness have been drummed out of our society, to everyone’s detriment,” the user went on to say. “American golf fans are classless fools. Don’t allow the fannies to consume alcohol. It’s for adults,” another said.
Someone else agreed that Watson was right to confront the heckler, but also noted that the golfer himself sometimes lacks politeness and decorum. “Bubba was in the right here. But he’s always been an asshole. I know from personal experience,” the user wrote. “Good for Bubba he did nothing different than Rory has done,” someone said.

One user suggested obnoxious hecklers be given a severe penalty when they get out of line like this fan did. “I am on Bubba’s side. I hate how fans are now. Golf was the one sport where everyone just rooted for good golf. Heckling has no place on the course. Ban them for life,” the person said. “Loud mouth and probably drunk, shut up and watch the golf,” another added.
