A video has emerged of French President Emmanuel Macron being slapped by a female protester and begun circulating around social media, though it is unclear from when and where the video came.
In it, the woman slaps Macron and is then tackled to the ground by his security detail, as you can watch here:
While the “when” of the above video is as yet unknown, Macron has made waves in recent days because of his comments about China and the Ukraine.
Speaking on the West’s growing rift with China, for instance, Macron said that he and France reject “confrontation” with the CCP, saying “We don’t believe in hegemony, we don’t believe in confrontation, we believe in stability.”
Adding to that, Macron said that France was playing a balancing role in the region as two elephants, the US and China, eye each other and look like they could be headed to war sometime soon. In his words:
“We are in the jungle and we have two big elephants, trying to become more and more nervous.
“If they become very nervous and start war it will be a big problem for the rest of the jungle. You need cooperation of a lot of other animals: tigers, monkeys, and so on.
“Our Indo-Pacific strategy is how to provide dynamic balance in this environment.
“How to provide precisely a sort of stability and equilibrium which could not be the hegemony of one of those, could not be the confrontation of the two major powers.”
Macron also reportedly urged Asian countries and leaders to get involved in the confrontation with Russia over Ukraine, telling them that the war is their problem too and that they should join the “increasing consensus” on the Russia-Ukraine issue.
Additionally, Macron attacked Russia’s alleged spreading of anti-French propaganda in Africa during an interview with TV5 Monde, saying:
This isn’t the first time a protester has slapped Macron. Back in the summer of 2021, a medieval combat enthusiast named Damien Tarel did so as well, yelling “Montjoie and Saint-Denis! Down with Macronism”, using an obscure medieval battle-cry and slapping the French president.
The BBC, reporting on what happened to Tarel, reported that “Prosecutors had called for 18 months in prison for assaulting a public official. The three judges said Tarel should be given 18 months, with 14 months of the sentence suspended. His four months in jail will start immediately but the rest will only be enforced if he commits another offence.”
