During a speaking event, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom recounted a story about an encounter he allegedly had with the young child of illegal aliens that many conservatives believe was a total fabrication used to emotionally manipulate the crowd he was speaking to. During the alleged tall tale, Newsom appeared to grow emotional, on the verge of bursting into tears.
In a now-viral clip of the event, Newsom claims that President Donald Trump sending in Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to conduct operations to find and apprehend illegal aliens and deport them from the country has ripped Southern California communities apart. “That was a line he crossed, because I saw it in the faces of folks in Southern California communities that were literally on the edge, torn apart,” the governor said.
He then launches into the sad tale of a young child left without his parents following the early raids ICE conducted in the Golden State. “I’ll never forget after those early raids that happened again in California, first Greg Bovino in California, first masked man, secret police, no markings, Oath of Office for the President of the United States, not the Constitution of the United States,” Newsom continued.
“After addressing those issues, I met with this kid in Ventura County whose two parents quite literally disappeared. He didn’t even know how to get back into his home. He’s a young child, no brothers and sisters. He didn’t even know how to feed himself,” he continued, his emotions building for dramatic effect. “His mom and dad going to the same bean packing place. They’ve been going vegetable packing for 25 years.”
Newsom then told the crowd, “They smashed the windows, they disappeared. You have experiences like that, I’m done.” He then describes how he twisted the narrative tonally to start attacking President Trump. “So what I started to do tonally is I put a mirror up to Trump. I shifted the social media, and yeah, we started to fight fire with fire. We started to punch back. We started to put a mirror up to the deviancy of this guy. None of this is normal. It’s not normal.”

Users on social media platform X were not buying what Newsom was trying to sell. One individual slammed the California governor for fabricating the account, writing, “You’d be emotional too if you had to make up every single interesting story about yourself. It’s exhausting.” Another quipped, “He’s ‘self-medicating’ again, isn’t he?”
Someone else ripped Newsom for being a Hollywood politician and putting on an act, saying, “True Hollywood politician, acting well done.” Another user accused Newsom of suffering from psychopathy for his use of emotional manipulation, writing, “False emotional affect is the mark of a psychopath. He does not really feel — it is all constructed.”
A user had strong words about the stories Newsom tends to tell, replying to the clip, “I don’t know how this guy keeps up with his own bulls**t. It’s like he doesn’t find facts and truth necessary.” Summing up the overall sentiment of the commenters on the post, another user wrote that Newsom “is a total fraud. An utter, complete, absolute fraud, who next will be telling stories of Corn Pop and children playing with his leg hair,” a reference to a strange tale told by former President Joe Biden.
