Throughout White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s time on the job, many have questioned her ability to perform the demanding job. Conservatives have suggested that KJP was selected for the role because of her immutable characteristics, namely her sexuality, gender, and race, which align with the Democratic interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Fox News’s Jesse Watters addressed the issue during a recent segment, where he played previously aired clips of his critiquing her performance on the job. “Biden tapped a deer in the headlights to speak for his White House,” he said. “She holds her 48-inch thick binder like a baby holds a blanket. No one has ever seen Pierre without it,” Watters added.
Furthermore, a recent report from the New York Post suggested that inside sources indicated that the Biden administration had attempted a “coup” to oust KJP from her position. Apparently, there have been complaints that KJP is overly reliant on her binder to answer questions and that she isn’t quick enough in her answers. However, it is reported that the White House was apprehensive to outright fire her because of the backlash that could ensue because of her race and sexuality.
“Sources tell the post that Biden senior aides have been quietly scheming to get her to leave on her own so they don’t have to fire her,” Watters said. “Now how does Biden’s very white staff push out the first black gay immigrant press secretary? Now top Democrats are fielding DEI distress calls from the West Wing,”
“There’s a huge diversity issue and they’re afraid of what folks are going to say,” according to the source from the New York Post report. Reportedly, after Jean-Pierre had been in the position for a year-and-a-half, a typical amount of time in a spokesperson’s tenure, White House officials had individuals approach her to advise a career shift.
“There was an effort to have some outside folks who Karine knows and trusts talk to her about why leaving last fall would have made a lot of sense for her and her career,” the source said, describing it as an “effort to encourage her to move along.” One source told The New York Post that officials were “trying to find Karine a graceful exit” because of the unfavorable optics around firing her.
“Karine doesn’t have an understanding of the issues and she reads the book [binder] word-for-word,” according to one of the sources. They added that the predicament is made worse because “she thinks she’s doing an amazing job.”
However, the Biden administration has denied these claims circulating in the media, where White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates explained, “Not only are these claims wildly false, but the reality is the polar opposite. Karine was never approached by anyone with such a message. She spends four hours preparing every day. And neither Jeff nor Anita did any such thing; both have been unflinchingly supportive of her.”
