The New York City Fire Department’s fire commissioner was booed and heckled by protestors during the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Just last week, commissioner Lara Kavanaugh vowed to hunt down New York firefighters who booed Letitia James and shouted “Trump” chants during a ceremony.
“You suck,” one protester yelled at the New York City Fire Department commissioner (FDNY) as she walked down the parade in front of Trump Tower. “Firefighters are the hunters,” one person exclaimed. Protestors also shouted “Trump” chants at the parade, garnering notable support from firefighters who visibly showed their appreciation toward the crowd who were heckling Commissioner Kavanaugh. Many can be seen stopping to wave and shaking hands with the hecklers.
Conservative commentator Chuck Callesto shared footage from the parade on X, with the caption, “Additional footage from Fox News shows a significant amount of New York firefighters offering support for President Trump during parade and APPLAUDING SUPPORTERS heckling FDNY commissioner Laura Kavanagh.. Last week Kavanagh said those who protested Letitia James will be hunted down.. FDNY has since walked back to statements of the commissioner following massive backlash..”
“FDNY fire commissioner who promised to HUNT DOWN firefighters who SPOKE UP FOR TRUMP and interrupted Letitia James gets booed during St. Patrick Day parade: ‘YOU SUCK.’ Kavanagh, the Fire Commissioner of the New York City Fire Department, booed during a St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City on Saturday, March 16th.. -Fox News,” Callesto wrote in the caption of additional footage from the parade.
The controversy stemmed from an incident in which New York Attorney General Letitia James was relentlessly booed during a promotion ceremony when she approached the podium to commemorate the swearing-in of the first Black female chaplain of the FDNY, the Rev. Pamela Holmes, alongside other first responders last week at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
“Oh, c’mon, we’re in a house of God. Simmer down,” James begged the energetic crowd as they repeatedly shouted “Trump!” at her. “Thank you for getting it out of your system,” she said. Following this disruption from the firefighters, the Bureau of Investigation and Trials (BITS) noted that it would “hunt” down the individuals who participated in the chanting.
“BITS is investigating this, so they will figure out who the members are,” according to an email sent to high-ranking FDNY officials last week. “I recommend they come forward. I have been told by the Commissioner it will be better for them if they come forward, and we don’t have to hunt them down.”
However, the FDNY dismissed reports that firefighters were being hunted down, following backlash from the language used in the email. “Nobody is hunting anyone down,” FDNY spokesman Jim Long explained to Fox News Digital in an email. “We’re looking into those who clearly broke department regulations. It has nothing to do with politics. It’s about professionalism at an official event held in a house of worship.”
