Democrats keep attempting to insist that President Trump is losing support amongst Republicans, particularly those who are firmly in the MAGA camp and are thus upset about the war with Iran and higher gas prices coming from it, a claim against which MAGA has been pushing back quite strongly. Even if some disagree with the war, nearly all still support the president.
Such is what CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten revealed on Thursday, May 7, saying that the Democrat-pushed claim that Trump is losing support among Republican voters is just a myth, and the reality is that Republicans remain firmly behind the president, as shown by the RINO bloodbath in Indiana.
As background, what happened in Indiana is that nearly all of the RINO state legislators who refused to support the president’s agenda and redistrict the state to hand an extra two seats in the House of Representatives to the GOP were thrown out by the britches by angry Republican voters who elected MAGA candidates instead.
Discussing that and what it shows about Trump’s support and popularity, Enten explained, “As Indiana goes, so goes the nation when it comes to Republican voters and Donald John Trump. He absolutely still has the juice. And when you’re a Republican and you go against Trump, you get voted off the island.”
He then added, commenting on how that is a nationwide fact that can’t be ignored, “I always love Survivor. And in this particular case, what we saw in Indiana was you go adios amigos, goodbye, see you later. And to me, that is emblematic of what we see nationwide with Republicans.”
Building on that, Enten used the data to show that Trump is as popular as ever, and the unpopularity myth is just that, a myth. He said, “I think there’s this myth that’s going on right now that, ‘Oh, Trump is really losing support among Republicans.’ But compared to other midterm cycles, he’s just as popular with Republicans as he has ever been at this point in midterm cycles.”
Continuing, Enten pulled out data to show how what Trump is seeing right now is nothing different than what he has seen in the past, and is actually better off in terms of popularity than even when Biden was president. Enten explained, “Right now, nationally, we’re talking about an approval rating on average of 84 percent. In 2022, his popularity rating was 76 percent, actually lower, right, when he wasn’t in the presidency. In 2018, the last time he was president, 85 percent. That 85 percent looks a whole heck of a lot like this 84 percent right here.”

Concluding, he noted that Trump remains hugely and highly popular with Republican voters, saying, “The bottom line is this. Donald Trump still absolutely has juice with Republican voters. You saw it in Indiana. And I think that you’ll see it down the line as well if any Republicans try and go against the president of the United States, who is still very much beloved by Republican voters nationwide.”
