Things took a turn toward the stunning during a Monday, May 13 segment on CNN. During that segment, CNN political analyst Harry Enten spoke about the recent survey of support for former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden in battleground states across the country, noting that the former president is walloping Biden in most of the critical swing states.
The basis for Eisen’s commentary was polling data from The New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. That polling data showed two things, both of which are bad news for the Biden camp. The first is that Trump is winning five out of six swing states right now. The second is that the buoy in Trump’s support is coming from non-traditional voting blocs for the GOP, indicating that his message is breaking through to a wider audience, particularly as the Biden administration train wreck makes things worse and worse for everyone.
Also important in the poll is that it is not just the population generally, but likely voters that are helping out Trump. For example, in Arizona, a state he narrowly lost in 2020, Trump is up by six percentage points among likely voters, something that bodes well for him headed into the election, assuming that he can maintain or grow that lead.
Commenting on the terrible numbers for Biden, Enten said, “These numbers are an absolute disaster… 13 in Nevada? My goodness!” He continued, “No Democrat has lost that state since John Kerry lost it back in 2004. Results for Biden were no much better among the Great Lakes states where Trump leads Biden by 3% in Pennsylvania, 1% in Wisconsin, and remains just 1% behind in Michigan.”
He then added that some of the states, namely the rust-belt, Democrats “can work with,” as the numbers are relatively close. But, pointing to the Sun Belt results, where Trump is up tremendously, he said. “This the Donald Trump campaign absolutely loves, and it looks like a lot of other polling.”
He went on to note that Trump’s huge lead in the Sun Belt is coming despite those states being more diverse, saying, “Those Sun Belt battleground states are more diverse than the Great Lake battleground states.” He did note, however,r that while Trump currently has the advantage in the swing states, he’s still needing to find the 270 electoral college votes, saying, “he’s not over the 270 mark just yet.”
Watch him here:
In addition to showing support for Trump, the poll revealed that Americans fear Biden can’t solve the problems they face, such as the cost of living, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, and immigration. For example, while about 70 percent of voters told the pollsters that America’s political and economic systems need a huge overhaul, just 13 percent of even Biden’s supporters think he could deliver such much-needed change in a second term if he somehow manages to pull out a win, a crushingly bad level of support for the elderly and aging president.
