In a recent appearance alongside President Donald Trump, Elon Musk offered a unique insight into how he’s been able to root out fraud and waste within the federal government. Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, said his experience at PayPal equipped him to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in their quest to root out fraud within the federal government.
For context, DOGE was established by one of President Trump’s first Executive Orders, which empowered the department to expose widespread fraud and waste in the federal government. Since then, DOGE has uncovered shocking cases of fraud and mismanagement and saved taxpayers billions of dollars in the process.
In his April 3, 2025, interview with FNC’s Sean Hannity, Musk explained how he can identify fraud. He said, “I’ll tell you a lesson I learned at PayPal. You know who complained the loudest, the quickest, and the loudest and with the most amount of righteous indignation? The fraudsters. That’s who complained first, loudest, and they would generally have this immense overreaction. That’s how we knew they were the fraudsters. That’s how we knew. That’s the tell.”
When this clip was posted to social media, it went massively viral, gathering over 33,000 likes and spawning dozens of comments. Some conservative commentators connected Musk’s remarks and the Democratic Party. One such comment said, “Elon is right, the ones that have the most to hide have to scream the loudest to push the truth far away. (Deflectors).”
Building on that point, others pointed fingers at melodramatic liberals. One such comment read, “The Democrats are revealing themselves their over the top outcry only exposes what’s really behind their actions.” Another user said, “Thank you for sharing this valuable lesson. We will always scrutinize the people outraging.”
Piling on the Democrats, users said, “These screamers are so brainwashed. It’s a national emergency to get them off the news shows feeding their derangement. Recently their behaviors are getting more aggressive. They won’t be able to face the fact that they were brainwashed.” Another user said, “The ones who scream the loudest always have the most to hide.”
Rounding out the comments, some accounts applied this wisdom to their lives. One of the comments read, “It’s been like that in any financial services job that I’ve had. The fraudsters are always cussing swearing in a hurry to get things done so they can get what they want. They’re always full of diversions as well.” A similar reply said, “Yup! The same with anything really. If you are good and honest, you don’t have to “sell” it. People will just know (by your fruit).”

This is far from the only time Elon has spoken about fraud. As we reported, Musk said, “One of the key tricks that the fraudsters pull is that they will use the fact that someone is marked as live as sort of just that that social security number is marked as live in Social Security, and then get disability and unemployment insurance for a dead person because the databases don’t talk to each other.”
Continuing his argument, the tech genius said, “All they got was from Social Security, is like, is this person alive? Yes, they’re not. They’re not alive. It’s falsely marked. Persons falsely marked as alive Social Security, but they didn’t, but that was a fraudster. [They] can now get unemployment and disability from a dead person. This is happening all the time at scale.”
