During a recent interview, former President Donald Trump and daytime television personality Dr. Phil McGraw discussed the seeming encroachment of companies linked to the Chinese government allegedly buying up farmland strategically close to U.S. military bases. McGraw showed the Republican presidential candidate a map detailing the land owned by these companies, addressing the implications of what he may have to deal with if he returns to the White House.
The conversation began with a sober acknowledgment that the world is barreling toward a global conflict. “We’ve never been so close to World War 3,” Trump told McGraw. The two then proceeded to discuss various global issues plaguing the United States, from the war in Ukraine to rampant illegal immigration.
“There could be 100,000 or more potential terrorists on American soil right now today, given what’s happened at the southern border, correct, and we do have Venezuela Congo, others that are emptying their prisons, of their most dangerous criminals, with one caveat, will let you out. But you go to the United States,” Dr. Phil stated.
McGraw then pointed out the troubling observation that many Chinese companies are surrounding U.S. military bases. “And look at this map that I did a show about this. The red is where the Chinese government has been buying major farmland. And then superimposed on that are some of our most strategic military bases,” he said before he began listing out various military bases and their critical assets, which are being surrounded.
“They’re surrounding our military bases. We’ve allowed that to take place,” McGraw said. “You may come in and inherit all of this, and it may get worse,” he pointed out to the former president before asking him what he intends to do about the situation. Trump noted that while it’s important to promote foreign investment, he admitted “that’s a lot of land” that’s been purchased by CCP-linked organizations with “a lot of activity around those nuclear sites, to put it mildly.”
The seemingly strategic purchase of the farmland has drawn commentary from those in the military community. Robert S. Spalding III, a retired United States Air Force brigadier general, said, “It is concerning due to the proximity to strategic locations.” He continued, “These locations can be used to set up intelligence collection sites and the owners can be influential in local politics as we have seen in the past. It is alarming we do not have laws on the books that would prevent the Chinese from buying property in the U.S.”
Morgan Lerette, a former contractor for the private military company Blackwater, also raised concerns about the suspicious activity around military bases. “The Chinese are, or will, use this farmland to learn more about US military capabilities, movements, and technology,” Lerette said. The former Blackwater contractor further expounded on how this will aid the Chinese military.

“This will allow them to better understand how to transition their military from a defensive strategy to an expeditionary one,” he noted further, adding they’ll figure out “how to move forces quickly for conflicts such as taking Taiwan and how and when US forces would respond to their incursions based on troop movement at these bases.”
