Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy recently pressed Karine Jean-Pierre as to why illegal immigrants are being released on bail after they commit “serious crimes.” Illegal immigration has exploded under President Joe Biden’s leadership, which has negatively impacted the country in various ways.
Doocy asked Jean-Pierre why federal law isn’t more aggressive toward illegal immigrants who have been accused of “serious crimes.” Doocy cited several illegal immigrants who were recently released on bail after allegedly being caught with firearms and drugs. “And why isn’t federal immigration law tougher on border crossers who come here and are accused of serious crimes?” he asked. “Does President Biden think policies like that are making the country safer?”
KJP refused to address the particular incident because it is an “active case.” However, she maintained that if someone is found guilty of a crime, they should be brought to justice. Furthermore, the press secretary asserted that individuals who pose a threat should be “detained pre-trial.”
“So I want to be very careful. That’s an active case,” she said. “I don’t want to comment on an active case, but anyone found guilty — and we’ve been very clear about that — anyone found guilty of a crime should be held accountable. We’ve been very, very clear about that, and if a person poses a danger to a community, they should be detained pre-trial.”
Doocy then asked KJP if the White House could opine on leftist district attorneys known for soft-on-crime laws. “So, more generally then, do you guys think that some big cities in this country have liberal DAs that are too soft on crime?” he asked.
Many have blamed the progressive policing policies embraced by DAs across the country for the increase in criminality observed over the past several years. However, Jean-Pierre refused to speak to the policies of any specific localities. Still, she emphasized the sentiment of her prior answer that those who are found guilty should be held accountable for their crimes.
“Look — what I will say that I am not going to speak to every state or city here. That’s not for me to speak to,” she responded. “We have been very clear about this. Anyone who commits a crime and is found guilty needs to be held accountable. That’s what this president believes and we are certainly — very much, we welcome local law enforcement support and cooperation in apprehending and removing individuals in this country who pose a risk to our national security or also public safety. If they are found guilty, they should be held accountable. That’s our — that’s where we stand on this.”
Over the past several years, criminal activity committed by illegal aliens has become a paramount concern for many Americans. For example, the high-profile murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley sent shockwaves around the nation when an illegal immigrant allegedly killed her.
The suspected killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, who entered the country illegally from Venezuela, had been previously arrested by Customs and Border Protection. However, he was released into the American interior, where he was arrested again for acting in a manner to injure a minor in New York City.
