A recently resurfaced video from a 2016 Trump rally highlights the former president’s charisma and unparalleled ability to engage with his audience. During the rally, Trump spotted a 2-year-old boy in the crowd who looked just like him, down to the suit and tie he was wearing.
Trump proceeded to bring the little boy on stage, whom he was highly complimentary of. “Now, he’s supposed to look like Donald Trump, but he’s actually much too good-looking. You are really handsome,” Trump said, praising his look-a-like.
“Where’s your daddy and your mommy right? Do you want to go back? Do you want to go back to them? Or do you want to stay with Donald Trump?” The boy confidently answered, “Trump,” to which the crowd roared. “What a beautiful boy. What a beautiful boy,” Trump added.
This clip from nearly eight years ago demonstrates Trump’s unmatched engagement with his supporters. While some may claim that the former president may have lost some of the energy he had in 2016 as he is aging and fighting a mountain of stressful legal battles, he continues to show that he can interact with massive crowds of energetic supporters.
While undergoing the hush money trial in New York City, Trump took advantage of his post-court time by meeting with different groups such as union workers, bodega workers, and firefighters. Trump clearly proved that he still has his swagger.
The American Tribune reported on Trump hand-delivering pizzas to FDNY firefighters this past week. A Newsmax reporter commented on footage of the president, stating, “This is incredible. The fact that he leaves cord goes in campaigns with these people. And it goes in campaigns with ordinary people, not high-dollar fundraisers with Lizzo like Joe Biden did recently.”
While navigating the liberal hotbed of New York City outside of his court proceedings, Trump has been met with eager crowds of cheering supporters as if he were at a campaign stop in a red state. The former president even acknowledged the unprecedented level of support, noting he may challenge Biden in the historically blue state.
Trump said, “We’re very close in New York I understand and we’re leading in the country by a lot. A poll just came out a little while ago, as you saw yesterday, that we have we’re up in every swing state and up by a lot in every swing state so I think we’ll do very well and we’re gonna make a play for New York.”
However, Trump has also voiced his frustration toward the case brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, which he has labeled a politically motivated “witch hunt” that is keeping him off the campaign trail at a crucial time. The former president has vehemently maintained his innocence.
“This is a Biden witch hunt to keep me off the campaign trail,” Trump said. “I should be in Georgia now. I should be in Florida now. I should be in a lot of different places right now, campaigning. And I’m sitting here. This will go on for a long time. It’s very unfair,” he said in post-court comments to the press.
