Former CNN anchor Don Lemon recently traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he interviewed several civilians at the popular seaside vacation destination. Notably, New Jersey has been considered a Democratic stronghold that rarely deviates from supporting Republicans. However, Lemon discovered that many of the individuals he interviewed expressed a strong affinity for former President Donald Trump.
“Here in Jersey, Atlantic City, what do you support?” Lemon said. “Trump for the win,” one man responded to Lemon. “Tell me why,” Lemon pressed the man. “I can’t really call that right now, but I just feel like she’s not good for President. She’s good vice, but not the actual country,” he said, speaking about Kamala Harris, “Does it have anything to do with being a woman?” Lemon further questioned, to which he said, “No.”
Another man explained that while his “money is on Harris,” he would rather Donald Trump win the election. “Why don’t you like Harris?” Lemon followed up, to which the man claimed Harris “doesn’t have any experience.” “If you’re in a gambling town, who’s your money on?” Lemon asked a couple passing by. The man immediately explained that he would support Trump given his successful economic record. “Four years ago it was a lot better. I made a lot more money than I do right now,” he said. However, Lemon pushed back on this assertion, claiming the data on the economy told a different story.
“I know you feel that way, but that’s not actually what the record shows. The economy is actually better under Biden,” the former CNN anchor said. However, the man laughed in Lemon’s face, indicating his personal experiences with the economy did not match what the data was showing.
Another woman told Lemon, “Well, I want Donald Trump. I just feel we need somebody that has a stronger background with the military and world in general.” However, Lemon argued, “She was a prosecutor and Attorney General, Senator and vice president.” The woman visibly shook her head as Lemon listed off Harris’ resume, still not convinced she was qualified.
“I support the Democratic Party, but I mean Trump has got in in the bag right now,” another man said. Lemon asked another man who he thought would win the election to which he responded, “Trump, that’s who’s gonna win… I support Trump. He proceeded to address illegal immigration, stating, “All the people that came to this country legally, is not fair that they’re letting all 10,000 to 15,000 people or 20,000 people here illegally,” presumably meaning to say millions instead of thousands.
The same man continued, “Have you seen San Diego? They’re coming to they’re coming off the boats, off the water right here, off the ocean. Did you, did you know Biden was flying them in? Did you know Biden was flying them in? Did you you didn’t know that?”
One of the women Lemon was interviewing continued her commentary on the economy, stating, “I know nobody likes him, but we had good times with Donald Trump. Our economy was good. Life was good.” After Lemon repeated his line about the economy being better under Biden, she suggested it was “bullsh*t. “Well, you know what, I don’t know where they’re getting their facts, but I don’t think they’re valid. I don’t know where their facts are coming from,” she added.”
