WATCH: DOJ Begins Criminal Investigation into Gov. Tim Walz, Mayor Jacob Frey Over Alleged Conspiracy to Obstruct ICE

In yet another bit of major news for those who are sick and tired of seeing sanctuary jurisdiction officials, and intransigent leftists generally, get away with constantly trying to obstruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, and federal immigration agents generally, as they try to do their jobs, CBS News reported that criminal investigations have begun into Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

As background, ICE deployed a slew of agents to crack down on Minneapolis in the wake of huge revelations of massive fraud committed by the Somali migrant community within the state, along with the generally pro-illegal immigration stance of the sanctuary city of Minneapolis against ICE officials.

Mayor Frey and Gov. Walz have been implacably hostile to the ICE agents since they started pouring into the city, making a number of remarks about resisting the Trump Administration’s anti-illegal immigration push, and like things, while also doing little if anything to protect ICE officials from potentially violent protests in the city.

As such, CBS News reported, the Trump Administration is responding to those comments and threats by opening a criminal investigation into Gov. Walz and Mayor Frey in which both officials are accused of an alleged conspiracy to impede federal immigration agents. The criminal investigation markes a major escalation in the administration’s clash with sanctuary city officials.

Mayor Fret, for his part, responded to the news by insisting that ICE was bringing chaos and strife to Minneapolis, saying, “This is an obvious attempt to intimidate me for standing up for Minneapolis, our local law enforcement, and our residents against the chaos and danger this Administration has brought to our streets.”

Continuing, Mayor Frey doubled down on his anti-ICE stance, saying that he would not allow ICE and the DOJ to intimidate him out of it with threats of criminal charges. He also, ludicrously, insisted that keeping the city safe is a major focus of his. He said, “I will not be intimidated. My focus will remain where it’s always been: keeping our city safe.”

Gov. Walz freaked out in a statement of his own, clutching his pearls and insisting that the conspiracy charges were “weaponization” of the government against him. Beginning, he said, “Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly.”

Continuing, he insisted that the ICE agent should be investigated for defending himself from a crazed protester, saying, “Weaponizing the justice system and threatening political opponents is a dangerous, authoritarian tactic. The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.”

U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, commenting on the matter of the two leftist officials and the reported investigation to Fox News, said that their rhetoric is verging on being a clear federal crime, and is being treated as such. He said, “When the governor or the mayor threaten our officers, when the mayor suggests that he’s encouraging citizens to call 911 when they see ICE officers, that is very close to a federal crime.”
