Former 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley broke down in tears during a truly cringe-worthy interview with far-left publication The New York Times over being booted from CBS News after working at the network for 40 years. Rather than showcasing that he has learned from his mistakes, he doubled down on the same rant that led to him getting fired in the first place.
Pelley described what led to his axing from the network, which started with the hiring of new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who left that publication due to its radical leftward turn. Weiss began a network-wide purge of the far-left elements that have caused it to take the same journey toward the left that the New York Times took, ridding it of a liberal executive producer and several anti-Trump correspondents.
The former anchor attempted to hijack new executive producer Nick Bilton’s first staff meeting by going into a hysterical rant, accusing Weiss of “murdering 60 Minutes,” and declaring that she “does not love this place,” before insulting the new boss as having “slender qualifications.” A few days later, CBS terminated Pelley’s contract. Bilton sent him a letter saying that he had shown “remarkable incivility and contempt” in a “performative display of hostility.”
According to The Gateway Pundit, the purge, now referred to as “Black Thursday,” was the main topic of Pelley’s interview with the NY Times. The former anchor cried his eyes out as he described the firings of his “family” during the “Black Thursday Massacre.”
“No one saw the Black Thursday massacre coming,” Pelley said. “The night before, Tanya and I were at the Emmy Awards, and we won two Emmys. Within hours, all of those people have been wiped out, and one-third of our correspondents have been fired. “My colleagues and I have worked together 10, 20, 30 years. We travel together. We dine together. We go into literal combat together.”
“So, these bonds are pretty tight, and when somebody wipes out, murders, a large number of your family members, people are desperate for some explanation, and as you and I sit here today, there still has been none,” Pelley continued. “I am not emotional about this because I have lost this job. I’ve done it for a long time.”
“I’ve had the greatest experiences. But the people I leave behind, treated in this way? That breaks my heart, and it’s going to take me a long time to get over it,” the former anchor said, growing emotional. One of the worst moments of the interview came when Pelley said that “newsrooms are sort of like the military” and that journalists have “life-threatening jobs” that featured “very strong bonds” that demand “people go to war zones when…pregnant.”

He then accused Weiss of have having a “thumb on the scale” for “Donald Trump’s GOP” before, ironically, saying “there’s a subtle political bias that I’ve never seen” before at CBS News. One user zinged Pelley in the comments on an X post about the interview, saying, “Maybe he could learn to code? The Quality Learing Center may have spots open.”
