Deputies with the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office in Wagoner, Oklahoma, saved an injured dog lying on train tracks in the area after the injured animal, stuck on the tracks, had been injured by a train. Fortunately, the deputies were able to rescue the trapped animal in time and said that they expect it to make a full recovery.
The sheriff’s office announced the heartwarming rescue in a Facebook post that included a video of deputies freeing the trapped and wounded dog from the train tracks, which it had apparently been trapped against for three days after being hit by a train, stuck between the tracks. The post described what happened to the dog and who in the sheriff’s office rescued it.
Announcing the rescue, the office began the post by saying, “Wagoner County Deputies rescue injured dog on train tracks.” It continued, describing how deputies were alerted to the situation, saying, “On 03-27-2024 Wagoner County Deputy J. Hutton was dispatched to the area of East 750 Road and South 288 Road in reference to an injured animal lying on the train tracks.”
Building on that, the sheriff’s office went on to add what the deputy discovered when he arrived on the scene and who else participated in freeing the trapped canine, saying, “Upon arrival, Deputy Hutton observed that a large dog had been hit by a train and was stuck in between the railroad tracks. Wagoner Police Department Captain B. Harding arrived a short time later to assist with rescuing the animal.”
Continuing, the office described how the two managed to call on other resources within the office to then evacuate the wounded animal, saying, “Deputy Hutton and Captain Harding determined that they could not get a patrol unit down to the location of the injured animal, so they requested the Sheriff’s Office Side by Side to the location to transport the animal safely to the roadway.”
Fortunately, that plan succeeded and yet another officer in the sheriff’s office arrived to help transport the dog. Describing that, the post said, “Lt. J. Halfacre arrived a short time later to assist with transporting the injured animal. Deputy Hutton and Lt. Halfacre were successful in removing the animal from the railroad tracks.”
Once the dog had been freed, its owner was alerted to the situation and took possession of the animal. They then took it to the vet so that its wounds could be professionally treated. “Upon arriving back at the roadway, a family member took possession of the dog and transported it to a local veterinary for treatment,” the sheriff’s office said.
Concluding, the office wrote, “It was discovered that the animal had been injured by a train three days prior to being located and could not free itself. The Sheriff’s Office was pleased that the dog was located and hopes for a full recovery for the injured canine. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Wagoner Police Department for their assistance.”
