In huge news that just rocked the Ohio gubernatorial election, the mother of Democratic candidate Amy Acton, who is running against Vivek Ramaswamy and previously appeared to have a good chance of winning due to Vivek’s unpopularity, came out and begged Ohio voters to vote for anyone other than her daughter, who lied about her past.
Indeed, in the video, which was released in quite the October surprise that is certainly helping Republicans, the mother of the Democratic candidate said that her daughter made up essentially her whole background and tales of family woe growing up, and that voters must not vote for her in this upcoming election.
For reference, Amy Acton has repeatedly claimed, including in campaign ads, interviews, and her acceptance speech, that she and her brother experienced childhood homelessness, which included spending one winter living in a tent at a campground in Youngstown, Ohio. Her mother claimed that this was a total lie.
Beginning the video, the mother of the candidate explained her own work background and connection to the gubernatorial candidate, declaring, “My name is Donna Arthur and I’m Amy Acton’s mother. I worked at Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in America.”
Continuing, she said that Acton has been lying about Vivek Ramaswamy, and that infuriates her, as Amy Acton has been lying about herself, and indeed has a serious lying problem. She said, “I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent—and it’s not easy for a mother to say this—but Amy has a serious problem.”
Giving an example, her mom called her out for her lifetime worth of lies about her background and supposedly being homeless, saying, “She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life.”
Still not done, she said the lying issue was so severe that her daughter “needs help” and needs to start telling the truth, saying, “My daughter needs help, and she can’t help you if she needs help herself. People can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn’t doing that.”

Concluding, she begged voters to not vote for her daughter, as doing so will make her lying problem even worse, saying, “Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.”

Investigative journalist Walter Curt, posting the video on X, said, “BOMBSHELL: Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s own mother urges voters not to vote for her daughter.” He added, after explaining what she had said, “That’s one hell of an October surprise.” In response to a comment, Walter added, “I’ve seen a lot of brutal politics. I’ve never seen a mother call for her daughter to get help in the final weeks of her campaign.”
