WATCH: Democrat Who Voted Against Epstein Files Release Now Tries to Stop Voter ID

In a recent viral clip, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) strongly opposed the SAVE Act, calling it a “terrible idea” that creates unnecessary obstacles for voters and linking it to Donald Trump’s supposed goal of suppressing turnout, something that has quite infuriated MAGA and come across as unreasonable given how highly popular voter ID laws are in America.

For context, in 2023 and 2024, while chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee, Durbin blocked Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s requests to subpoena Jeffrey Epstein’s flight logs. However, in 2025, Durbin shifted to criticizing delays in releasing the Epstein files and to co-sponsoring transparency legislation.

In any case, kicking off the interaction, the inquisitive journalist asked the Illinois Democrat, as they walked through the District of Columbia, “The SAVE Act is expected to be brought to the floor for a vote this week. What are your thoughts on that? Are you going to support the SAVE Act?”

The Democratic senator answered by attacking the very idea of the legislation, saying, “Not at all. It’s a terrible idea. This notion that we want to put more obstacles in the paths of voters is just what Donald Trump wants—fewer people voting. I want every legal citizen in America to be able to vote without obstacles.”

“Do you think requiring an ID to vote in elections is making it harder? I mean…,” the reporter asked before being interrupted. Durbin interjected, “It’s more than that. It’s more than an ID. It’s proof that you were born in America. So what are we talking about? A passport or a birth certificate? Got one of those handy with you in your purse? I doubt it.” Pushing back, the interrogative journalist pointed out, “Well, if you’re going to the voting poll and you know what you need to bring? I mean, it’s just one of those documents, right?”

Freaking out, Sen. Durbin totally lost control of the narrative and threw a hissy fit on the sidewalk. “Just one of those documents. Think about securing your birth certificate before you go on to vote. You know, why are we creating these obstacles so we have the lowest incident of fraud and misuse of voting in the world, and Donald Trump wants to put more obstacles in the path of voters,” he claimed, “I want everybody legally entitled to vote, to have that option without complications.”

Reacting ot the clip, one user said, “Democrat Senator Dick Durbin says he opposes the SAVE Act, he says Voter ID is a “terrible idea.” He says Americans don’t have the ability to get things like an ID or birth certificate. This is the same Dick Durbin who previously blocked the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.”

In the comments under the clip, conservatives blasted the entitled politician. “These are the same individuals who DEMANDED Americans get ID to prove they’d taken the Covid-19 vaccine. Do they believe we forgot?” one woman asked.

Likewise, another user noted, “This is why trust in elections is at rock bottom. Telling us average Americans are too incompetent to get a birth certificate or ID is insulting. Meanwhile, illegals get more help than citizens. Durbin is protecting the wrong people. Too bad for him.”
