Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) completely embarrassed herself on live television by tap dancing around a question about socialism asked during an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box program. Blunt Rochester was asked where socialism has been “beneficial” when she was asked to provide her thoughts on the recent primary elections in New York.
The primary saw not one, not two, but three openly socialist candidates win their elections. Two of them defeated the incumbent lawmakers occupying those seats. Instead of commenting on what sort of impact this could have on the Democratic Party as a whole, Blunt Rochester simply took an opportunity to celebrate the victories.
“I think that, first of all, the fact that people are engaged at a level they’ve never been engaged before is a positive thing, especially in the 250th anniversary of this country,” Blunt Rochester went on to say. “We want people to participate. What I can say, though, about Democrats, and as someone who is working to win the majority, what I can say is that politics are local.”
According to a report from The New York Post, CNBC host Joe Kernen later asked Blunt Rochester where socialism has ever been successfully implemented. “Where has socialism ever worked, senator?” he asked. “Is that another question or is that for the next interview?” Blunt Rochester replied. The host repeated his question.
“Well, when you have me come back on we can talk about all the races across the country,” she replied, completely dodging the question. Kernen then said that it was a “rhetorical question that I was answering myself,” before thanking Blunt Rochester for her time. History speaks for itself concerning the successful implementation of socialism. There is no nation in the world, no point in history, where socialist ideology has been practically applied successfully.
Conservative commentators, thinkers, and philosophers would say its failure is inherent, meaning that the problem with the socialist political system is the system itself, which can never be practically implemented because it denies fundamental realities about human nature and how societies function. Political theorists say the core philosophy of socialism is the belief that the human race can morally perfect itself with the right laws and leaders in place.
The three socialists who won their primary races in the Big Apple include Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier. All three of the candidates ran their campaign on a socialist economic agenda, anti-Israel posturing, and opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. All of them were, unsurprisingly, endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who is also a democratic socialist.

Someone wrote in the comment section of the New York Post story, “Socialism works for those in charge. They live like kings while the rest of the people have to eat grass.” Another individual wrote, “The question should always be: If capitalism is so bad and socialism is so great then why aren’t there any caravans heading TO Venezuela? We’ll wait.” Putting it succinctly, another person said, “Marxism in any form never works.”
