A Democratic Senate candidate in Minnesota, who just recently won the primary to take the party nomination, openly stated that she wants to dismantle ICE and then made a call for blanket amnesty for illegal aliens. Peggy Flanagan sat down for an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker, who pressed her to explain what she meant when she said she wanted to “rip ICE apart.”
“You have said that you want to rip ICE apart. Is that effectively calling to abolish ICE? Do you want to abolish ICE?” Welker asked Flanagan. She responded, “I think what we need is an immigration system, but we need an immigration system that you know is grounded in public safety and that is grounded in dignity and making sure that we have a pathway to citizenship.”
Leftists often use the phrase “pathway to citizenship” as codespeak for amnesty to illegals residing in the United States. Flanagan first made her controversial remarks about ICE during her victory speech following the election. “Now let’s talk about Donald Trump’s out of control ICE force,” the Minnesota Democrat said. “We need to rip ICE apart and stop them from terrorizing our communities.”
“And I know this. I know that we can fix our broken immigration system, secure the border, and create a real pathway to citizenship that aligns with our values,” Flanagan continued, according to a report from Fox News. During her campaign, Flanagan promised to go on the attack against ICE while on the campaign trail following the fatal shootings of anti-ICE agitators Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota.
She also used Rep. Angie Craig’s (D-MN) support of the Laken Riley Act to draw a sharp distinction between the two of them. Thanks to her many hard left positions on the top issues of the day, Flanagan has earned endorsements from progressive stars like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN), whose retirement is the reason the seat Flanagan is running for is up for grabs.
Surprisingly, Republicans are also happy about Craig’s defeat as it means Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has been handed yet another loss. The race also presents Republicans with another opportunity to gain a seat and further cement their hold on Congress, should they beat Flanagan in November.
“Morale among Chuck Schumer’s establishment is at an all-time low, and Bernie Sanders’ socialist flank is filling the gap with candidates like Peggy Flanagan and Abdul El-Sayed,” Bernadette Breslin, a spokesperson for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, went on to say in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Sanders made an appearance on Face the Nation where he discussed the Minnesota Democrat, saying, “Peggy Flanagan is about bringing about real change, standing up to the big money interests. There is a reason why the super PACs and the billionaires are flooding Minnesota with all kinds of money. Same thing as Michigan.” Flanagan will take on former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya in the general election this November.
