Speaking in an interview on CNN that came alongside the House and Senate finally finding a spending agreement that reopened the government and ended the 43-day-long government shutdown that began on October 1, Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) indicated that another shutdown is soon coming, and Democrats are already making plans for it.
In fact, the far-left Massachusetts Democrat, who represents a South Boston constituency in Congress, explained to CNN’s Omar Jimenez on Friday, November 14, that the Democratic Party is eyeing and preparing for a second government shutdown of this Trump presidency when the very short-term Continuing Resolution that was just agreed upon expires in January of 2026.
Drawing attention to the matter in a post on X that garnered tens of thousands of views, the RNC Research X account posted, “Democrat Rep. Stephen Lynch says he is ‘furious’ that the government reopened and suggests the Democrats will shut down the government again in January.”
Speaking in the clip that exploded on social media, Rep. Lynch first declared that he is absolutely “furious” with members of his party for doing what Republicans wanted and voting to reopen the government after a month and a half. He said, “So, so, no, I’m furious with the senators who decided to bail on us.”
Continuing, he declared that those who went along with the plan to reopen the government don’t have strong spines and so, though he and others are eyeing shutting the government down in January, he is unsure if those senators who worked with Republicans this time will do so again. He said, “There may be another opportunity in, in January, when this CR expires, but, but I’m not sure this experience has stiffened their spine.”
Concluding, the Massachusetts Democrat declared that those who worked to reopen the government to help the country were worried more about their relationship with Speaker Johnson and President Trump than their constituents, ignoring as he did so the fact that the shutdown was starting to hurt many of their constituents, such as SNAP recipients. He said, “They should worry more about the people they represent than, than, you know the Republican Speaker or, or the White House.”

Commenters on the RNC Research post about the interview both skewered Rep. Lynch over his comments and called on the GOP to do more to combat leftist radicals in Congress like him before the Trump agenda is irretrievably delayed by the feckless Congress.
One such commenter said, “They’ll really be exposed if they shut it down again. And that little ‘contingency’ fund meant for disasters the activist judges tried to force Trump to use for food stamps won’t be there.” Another wrote, “Exactly why the Republicans need to terminate the filibuster.
Of course a Massachusetts Democrat is giving it away. They want the country destroyed and rebuilt in their communist vision….”
Still others, calling out the Democrats generally, said things like “The democrats care more about their own power and zero about the American people” and “If you are still voting Democrat, you need to evaluate your priorities!”
