State Rep. Angie Nixon (D-FL) employed the use of a very toddler-like tactic at the State Capitol on April 29, 2026, walking up and down the aisles in a pink jumpsuit and using a bullhorn, after lawmakers in Florida passed a bill that could potentially help Republicans gain four additional seats. Footage of the incident was released by the Florida House of Representatives.
In the footage, Nixon can be seen yelling into the bullhorn, which was also brightly colored, as the House Speaker was set to call for a vote on bill HB-1D. The legislation would allow the GOP to flip four House seats currently occupied by Democrats to Republican, helping improve the chances of conservatives keeping their majority in the upcoming midterm elections.
Nixon, who is clearly not a big fan of the legislation, called the bill a “violation of the constitution.” Decked out in her jumpsuit, Nixon screamed into the megaphone as the final vote was called, “This is a violation of the Constitution! It is!” She made good use of the bullhorn, using it repeatedly throughout the entirety of the vote. “What y’all are doing is illegal!” she shouted at one point. “I will not allow you to destroy our democracy!”
According to a report from Fox News, Nixon’s efforts were in vain. As she continued the ruckus, shouting, “You are out of order!” and “This is a violation of the Constitution!” the Florida House granted final approval of the redistricting bill in an 83-28 vote. The measure was also passed in the Florida Senate, which means its now on it’s way to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk to be officially signed into law.
Florida isn’t the only state in the country where a battle over redistricting is raging as the two parties fight over control of Congress in the midterm elections to be held in November 2026. Texas, California, and Virginia are among a list of states that have already approved redistricting measures. DeSantis has been an ardent defender of the push for redistricting.
In an interview with Fox, DeSantis said, “Florida got shortchanged in the 2020 Census, and we’ve been fighting for fair representation ever since. Our population has since grown dramatically, and we have moved from a Democrat majority to a 1.5 million Republican advantage.” The governor then stated that the current Florida district map is “based on race,” which he said is unconstitutional and “should be prohibited.”
The Florida delegation to Congress is represented by a total of 20 Republicans and seven Democrats with an eighth Democratic seat currently vacant after the resignation of Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. The proposal in Florida follows after Virginia approved an amendment to their state constitution allowing the state to redraw districts and flip four GOP seats to the Democratic side.

The proposed map was, unsurprisingly, celebrated by Democrats, including Virginia Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger and former President Barack Obama. The comments on a video clip of Nixon marching around the room were largely in favor of the vote passing, with one individual noting that her efforts were for naught, saying, “What a difference she made!”
