In a viral moment from a recent congressional hearing, the Heritage Foundation’s Michael Howell slammed Democrats for their inflammatory rhetoric, which he argued drove an 830% surge in assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. He specifically referenced Democrats calling for “blood” and violence.”
For context, the Trump Administration has doubled down on its commitment to mass deportations and increased border security despite violent resistance. However, Democrats, such as Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), attempted to shout down Howell’s well-reasoned speech.
Beginning his remarks, Howell launched a full-on attack on left-wing politicians. He stated, “I especially thank you for giving me a platform to plead with members of this body on the Democrat side to stand down on their threats against the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
Immediately launching into his speech, Howell used numerous examples to slam the Democrats for contributing to the violence against ICE. He delcared, “The violence is getting out of control, and it is fueled by the demagoguery of politicians, whether it is one of your members telling Axios that there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public, another saying civility isn’t working and to prepare for violence, or even a member of this committee being arrested for forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officials, this escalation deserves condemnation.”
Before he was rudely interrupted, the Heritage fellow explained the consequences of this rhetoric. Howell added, “It needs to stop, and it needs to stop now, assaults against ICE officers are up over 830% and that’s a low-ball estimate, there have been violent incidents in Alvarado…”
Clearly triggered by Howell’s awe-inspiring speech, Rep. Bennie Thompson rudely interrupted. He whined, “I’ve got a point of order,” and attempted to paint the speech as “outside the scope of the hearing,” but Republican lawmakers shouted him down.
After the order was restored, the principal conservative resumed his speech. Howell stated, “Thank you. Reclaiming my time, the violence, obstruction, and subversion of the United States that is emanating from so-called non-governmental organizations, unwell individuals, some probably paid and supported by the political mainstreaming of violent rhetoric from national politicians.”

Describing the complicity of the Biden administration, he added, “We saw the writing on the wall during the Biden border crisis with the sick marriage between the government and so-called non-governmental organizations facilitating illegal immigration.”
Demolishing the left-wing NGOs, he continued his assault, saying, “The reason I call these groups, so-called non-governmental organizations, is because they, for the most part, draw funds from the government or have a preferential tax status from the government. They are now more creatures of the government than they are non-governmental.”

Concluding his remarks, Michael Howell described the scope of the damage that Biden’s immigration policy has caused. He stated, “The United States of America is still reeling from the consequences of the worst border invasion in history. This was an invasion that was planned, promoted, encouraged, funded, and sustained by radical elements of the previous administration. This invasion could not have been accomplished without a colossal partnership between the government and open borders organizations.”
