Radical left-wing activist and former Georgia state representative Stacey Abrams recently made an appearance on MS NOW where she stated that the SAVE America Act would make it more difficult for several groups of people to take part in close elections, which, she claimed, could end up benefiting the Republican Party.
“Oppression is very real. In elections that are decided on the margins, voter suppression comes together, whether it’s ending mail-in voting, using citizenship proof, although every citizen has to prove your citizenship to get on the rolls. These more restrictive policies all come together to make it harder for average people to be heard,” Abrams said during the interview.
“If you’re a senior, if you’re rural, if you’re disabled, if you’re a student, if you’re a person of color, those are five populations that, when these bills and these rules and these executive orders come to fruition, shave enough points off of elections that Republican authoritarians can gain the outcome,” the twice-failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate said.
Abrams is no stranger to controversy. In April 2024, the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $2 billion grant to Power Forward Communities, a coalition of housing and climate nonprofit organizations that included Rewiring America, where Abrams served as a senior counsel and advisor.
Prior to her service, the organization had minimal revenue, meaning her influence with former President Joe Biden might be responsible for the organization being awarded the grant. Abrams’ comments concerning the SAVE Act come as the GOP continues to fight to see it pass the Senate and become law. The legislation would require individuals registering to vote to prove their citizenship.
It also requires individuals to produce ID in order to cast a ballot, ends universal mail-in voting, and codifies protections for women’s sports and places bans on transgender surgeries for children, according to Breitbart News. During a November 2024 appearance on CNN, Abrams made the claim that despite Georgia having record-setting early voting numbers, voter suppression was still present.
“Turnout does not mean there is not voter suppression activity,” Abrams stated during the interview. “A lot of those voters in 2020 were able to vote by mail. One of the reasons we’re seeing early lines is because they can no longer use the easier method of voting by mail because of SB 202, because of SB 189 laws that Brad Raffensperger and Brian Kemp supported and pushed forward.”

The former Georgia state congresswoman then explained that, “People who are disabled, people who have lost their homes are facing harder times casting their ballots, but they refuse to be silenced.” She then went on to say that voters were “standing in lines they shouldn’t have to stand in because they believe their voices matter.”
