The fight over who will be governor of California is raging, and Republicans are looking like they might have a shot, if still only a small one, of victory. As such, they brought out the big guns during the debate between the various candidates, with one of the best moments coming as Democrat Xavier Becerra squirmed on the debate stage as Republican candidate Steve Hilton exposed him for his corruption scandal.
Particularly, Hilton exposed what appears to be campaign finance fraud that Becerra is accused of committing, and argued that is ridiculous for the Democrats to be claiming to be law-followers when they have been involved in such tawdry offenses and scandals.
Kicking off the powerful takedown of the squirming, obviously embarrassed and uncomfortable Democrat on the debate stage as CNN’s Kaitlin Collins watched on, Hilton said, “My view is that it’s a bit rich for Xavier to talk about following the law when he is mired personally in a corruption scandal…”
Continuing, Hilton set up the background of the corruption scandal for the crowd, explaining, as Beccara kept looking very uncomfortable, “Where his former chief of staff, Sean Mcclusky, when Xavier was appointed by Joe Biden to be health secretary, he wanted his chief of staff to go with him.”
Then, dropping the hammer and exposing what Becarra and his allies had done that was so objectionable, he said, “The salary wasn’t enough. So what did they do? They took money from Xavier’s campaign account to top up his salary by funneling it to Dana Williamson, Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff, so that it was paid to this guy’s wife.”
Still not done and adding to that, Hilton declared that what Beccarra had been up to was obviously illegal and needs to be treated as such at both the state and federal levels, as such obvious amounts of horrid corruption cannot be allowed to go unchecked and unpunished. He said, “All of that is illegal! It is against state law. It’s against federal law.”
Concluding his powerful takedown of the seemingly quite corrupt Democrat by noting that consequences will be coming if he is elected, Hilton vowed that his attorney general running mate will ensure that Becarra will face serious consequences for his actions, including a full and serious investigation that will lead to state-level prosecution, at the very least.

Doing so, he vowed and revealed, “My running mate for attorney general, Michael Gates, has this evening, written to Xavier Becerra to make it clear that when he is attorney general, Xavier will be investigated and, if necessary, prosecuted for these crimes.” It remains to be seen if the federal government takes the matter as seriously.
Posting with glee about the incident on X, one account that went viral when calling it out said, “Democrat Xavier Becerra gets uncomfortable on the debate stage as Republican Steve Hilton exposes him for his corruption scandal. The nervous look on Becerra’s face when Hilton promised a full investigation was priceless.”
