CNN host Dana Bash recently appeared visibly perturbed when outlining potential aspects of President-elect Donald Trump’s foreign policy agenda. Bash’s commentary came after Trump’s bombshell press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, where he made several notable statements about what he intends to do upon returning to the White House later this month.
Speaking to reporters at his Florida estate, Trump floated several ideas, such as renaming the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America” and suggesting that Canada should essentially become the 51st state of the U.S. given its reliance on American policy. The incoming president has also expressed interest in acquiring Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Bash said during a segment on the left-leaning network, “Some new information about what he intends to do, or at the very least is not ruling out when he takes office, including not ruling out a military invasion to conquer Greenland, the Panama Canal and perhaps the annexation of the country of Canada.” Trump maintained that acquiring these locations is in the national security interest of the United States.
When asked if he would rule out using military force to conquer these geographic assets, he stated, “No, I can’t assure you on either of those two. But I can say this: We need them for economic security.” The American Tribune reported on Trump’s remarks at the press conference, in which he asserted that Canada “should be a state.”
Trump pondered, “But why are we supporting a country two hundred billion plus a year?” He further noted, “Our military is at their disposal all of these other things they should be a state.” Trump told the reporters that he even said this directly to Trudeau in a prior meeting. “That’s why I told Trudeau when he came down. I said, ‘What would happen if we didn’t do it?’ He said, ‘Canada would dissolve, Canada. wouldn’t be able to function.”
Addressing the idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico, Trump said during another portion of the press conference, “We are going to be announcing at a future date, pretty soon we’re going to change … because we do most of the work there, and it’s ours … we’re going to be changing … so the opposite of Biden, where he’s closing everything up, essentially getting rid of fifty to sixty trillion dollars worth of assets.”
The incoming president continued, “We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.” Trump joked that his proposal “has a beautiful ring” to it. He added, “The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate.” Trump also addressed those held liable for the January 6 protest, where he pointed out to a reporter that only his supporters had lethal violence imposed on them.

“Ashley Babbitt was killed. She was shot. She had never been shot. She was shot for no reason whatsoever. In fact, they say that she was trying to hold back the crowd, and the crowd is made up of a lot of different people, so we’ll see,” he said. “But I will tell you this, the person that was was killed was Ashli Babbittt,” Trump emphasized. “But the other thing is, when they talk, you know, there was never charges of insurrection or anything like that. But if there were, this would be the only insurrection in history where people went in as insurrectionists with not one gun.”
