Conservative political commentator Agent Dan Bongino recently warned the incoming Trump administration about the “Swamp’s” tactics that are supposedly already being deployed to thwart the Make America Great Again agenda. Bongino outlined how the smear campaign against Trump’s cabinet pick for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is a malicious attempt to undermine Trump.
Bongino began, “I understood that, that by telling the truth and by speaking truth to power, that I was never going to be that guy. And believe me, there are consequences. I’m only human. Folks, sometimes you really just want someone to say, like, look at Dan and give you a little and that’s never going to happen.” Calling out the challenges of navigating the federal government, he added, Me, outside of government is better, because if I wanted to get inside a government right now, I would need the support of senators like Lindsey Graham and Joni Ernst.”
“And you know what, it’s not worth selling your soul over,” he continued before explaining why he specifically named the two GOP senators. “Why do I bring those two up? Because very credible sources, unimpeachable sources, have told me that these are the two ringleaders behind sabotaging Pete Hegseth, and it’s disgusting, because they both share one thing in common. They’ve run under our brand, the Republican Party brand.”
Bongino then sounded off on the attacks against Pete Hegseth that have made his life tumultuous after Trump tapped him to be in his cabinet. “Folks, Pete’s being destroyed. His life, his wife, his kids, his family. They’ve dragged his mother into it. And they’re doing it because they’re applying rule 11 of Saul Alinsky rules, because that’s who the media is.”
According to the conservative commentator, the left is deliberately smearing Hegseth to undermine his agenda. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual, ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame they are focusing on Pete. Folks, it is time to draw the line. They’ve already taken their scalp in Matt Gaetz.”
Bongino maintained that if the Trump administration and Republicans not stand firm and ignore the anonymous unproven accusations against Hegseth, the swamp will continually subvert the president-elect before Trump even takes office. “If we don’t draw a line in the sand and say, Not today, not this guy, then, folks, the swamps already won,” he said.
The American Tribune recently reported on other controversy surrounding Pete Hegseth, where the United States Military Academy West Point gave false information to a journalist trying to write a hit piece on the Defense Secretary nominee. After Hegseth made claims that he was admitted into the prestigious institution, West Point claimed that he had never applied. However, Hegseth produced his admission letter proving the university wrong.

Vice President-elect JD Vance called out the journalist who was originally writing the article about Hegeseth. “You were misled by a bureaucrat. That’s actually a story, just not the one you wanted to print. The effort to tank Hegseth’s nomination is one of the most coordinated smear campaigns I’ve ever seen in DC,” the Ohio senator wrote on X.
“West Point lied to you about the incoming SECDEF and you didn’t think it was worth a story?” CEO and co-founder of The Federalist Sean Davis commented on the matter. Continuing to criticize the bias displayed from the journalist, he said, “That’s not journalism. You were looking to run a partisan hit, and when it failed, you tried to slink away and pretend it never happened.”
“Officials at the U.S. Military Academy should not be feeding lies to left-wing reporters about President Trump’s nominees,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said on X. “West Point needs to thoroughly investigate this egregiously bad judgement and potential violation of the Privacy Act immediately.”
