Vice President Kamala Harris’s first solo interview with Philadelphia’s 6 ABC anchor Brian Taff has drawn substantial criticism from social media users, suggesting that the Democratic nominee is unprepared to lead the United States from the Oval Office. Many claimed that Harris lacked confidence, refused to answer questions directly, and lacked substance when she discussed her economic policies.
Following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Harris had been called out for seemingly avoiding the press, refusing to give a substantive press conference or sit down for a one-on-one interview. Only recently, after weeks of being the party’s nominee, has she sat down for an interview alongside Tim Walz and her latest solo interview.
Conservative commentator Greg Price commented on how poorly the interview went, writing on X, “Oh my goodness this is an absolute train wreck. Reporter: What are your specific plans to bring down prices? Kamala: “I grew up a middle class kid… I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn. Ya know?”
For context, at one point during the interview, Taff asked Harris to list “one or two” policies that she would enact to mitigate the persistent inflation that has plagued America throughout the Biden-Harris administration. However, Harris danced around the question, reciting nearly the same talking points from the presidential debate in a long-winded answer. Further deviating from the original question Harris also turned her answer into an attack against Trump.
Harris said, “Well, I’ll start with this. I grew up a middle class kid. My mother raised my sister and me. She worked very hard. She was able to finally save up enough money to buy our first house when I was a teenager. I grew up in a community of hard working people, you know, construction workers and nurses and teachers. And I try to explain to some people who may not have had the same experience, you know, if — but a lot of people will relate to this. You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, you know? And, and I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity and that we, as Americans, have a beautiful character.”
Daily Wire senior reporter Ryan Saavedra emphasized that the interview was “scary” and that Harris was not prepared to be the president of the United States. “This interview that Kamala Harris gave is truly staggering. Never have seen a politician this nervous, this unprepared for the office they are running for, and this clueless headed into an election. Kind of scary to be honest,” he commented.
Another user claimed that even Democrats are not attempting to defend Harris after the poor interview performance. ” Kamala Harris is getting roasted over her first solo (taped) TV interview tonight and there are no Democrat accounts out here defending her,” said author Tim Murtaugh.
