Investigative journalist Cameron Higby — known as Cam Higby — was filming an Antifa-led riot, which they, of course, called a protest, when he and his security team were attacked by the mob and robbed. Rioters at the event, which took place outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Newark, New Jersey, put up barriers to keep police from entering the detention center.
However, they were only able to keep out ambulances and EMS. Following their failed attempt to build a wall, which is ironic due to how hard they have fought against the Trump administration erecting one along the southern border, the night turned violent. Higby said that he saw a rioter smash the windshield of a federal law enforcement vehicle when he tried to get footage of the perpetrator.
While moving around to get the shot he needed, one of his phones fell out of his pocket. While he was looking for the phone, a rioter snatched his tripod and streaming phone. This started a scuffle which inspired other rioters to destroy Higby’s belongings, including $2,000 worth of camera and media equipment. Higby then stated that one of his security guards sustained injuries, including a laceration from ice thrown at his head.
According to a report from Townhall, radical liberals on social media quickly took to their platforms of choice to celebrate the chaos and violence against Higby, with one individual commenting, “they done broke his phone…they done f***ed up his bodyguards.” The independent journalist was then forced to make a hasty retreat into the Delaney Hall facility to escape the angry mob. As of this writing, no individuals have been charged in the incident.
Other comments published in response to Higby’s posts about the situation referred to him as a “Charlie Kirk wannabe” who “may meet his fate.” The journalist then revealed that anti-ICE agitators had made plans before the attack at Delaney Hall occurred. “People eat meat and animal flesh, which requires the en masse slaughter of millions of living beings, and the beef industry alone takes up easily more than 30x the amount of water that data centers use,” a message from a leftist shared on Signal said.
“I don’t think wishing death upon Charlie Kirk is too outrageous in the reality that we live in,” the message added. At another protest outside the facility a few days after Higby’s encounter, a man identified as Brendan Geier, 26, was arrested. He was accused of biting and kicking ICE agents during the demonstration. Another man was taken into custody after he made threats to kill an ICE officer and his family.
Rioters are demanding that immigration authorities release vulnerable detainees from the facility. The state health commissioner recently filed a lawsuit against those in charge of Delaney Hall in an attempt to get it shut down. An open letter penned by someone inside the facility claimed that rotten food was being served to detainees and that living conditions inside the detention center were poor.

However, President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, visited the facility unannounced and stated what he found there was the exact opposite of the claims being made. Homan sat down for lunch with detainees and ate the same meal they were being served and revealed during an interview with Fox News that the meal was substantial.
