Throughout college football last weekend, there were many tense moments as long-standing rivalries played each other across the country. Among the most chaotic was the matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes, where an all-out brawl ensued after Michigan planted its flag at centerfield after its decisive victory.
There were varying reactions to the brawl with some blaming Michigan for taunting Ohio State, claiming the flag plant was disrespectful. “Ohio State had every reason to be upset. Michigan had no business disrespecting their field like that,” one person wrote. Another person said in agreement, “No team should plant a flag on the opposing teams logo very disrespectful and less is called unsportsmanlike conduct. 🤷🏻♂️”
Another user weighed in, “You can see they knew it was coming. You got to know the scene. There are a lot of defenseless people without pads and helmets. Like I said I’m curious what fines and suspensions and perhaps scholarship reductions or penalties will result from this.” Others suggested both Ohio State and Michigan were responsible to some degree. “Both teams should be banned from post season play. They don’t have enough character between the two schools come to this conclusion. Other rivals have done it but these to clown schools will not,” one person commented.
While the focus was on the brawl between the players, there was a lesser reported on moment where several players from both teams gathered to pray while their teammates were engaged in battle. The Christian Tribune reported on reactions to this incident, where footage shows at least one Michigan player kneeling in prayer alongside several Buckeyes.
CBS Reporter Brandon Marcello shared the footage to X, writing, “While the melee was going on between Michigan and Ohio State, Ryan Day looked on and two Buckeyes and a Wolverine huddled together to pray.” Conservative Forum praised the young men, writing, “These four men need to be celebrated. LEAD BY EXAMPLE. Well done.”
Another user praised Marcello’s drawing attention to the overlooked incident that offers a different, uplifting side of the story contrasting the widespread chaos. They wrote, “AND…. that’s the “rest of the story!” Thanks for getting this truth out. This is the first I have seen this. The mainstream media spun it as he just stood there watching the mayhem & took no control over his team. Than you for getting this out & actually being a “journalist” 👍🏻”
Another person added, “Now THAT is how the rest of both teams should’ve been behaving. If not in prayer, at least in the same heartfelt spirit from which those gentlemen drew the instinct and desire to react prayerfully in unison.” An OSU fan chimed in , “As a diehard Ohio State fan, this is heartwarming. Donovan Edwards has earned my respect. Classy move by him. I am glad that those men were able to put aside their differences and come together in prayer. It’s unfortunate the situation that was going on behind, but props to these 4 players.”
