A viral clip captured CNN’s New Year’s Eve 2025 broadcast, where co-host Andy Cohen, appearing intoxicated, launched a rant against outgoing New York City Mayor Eric Adams shortly after midnight. Cohen mocked Adams’ “chaotic, horrible” term and referenced presidential pardons, telling him to “go dance away,” while co-host Anderson Cooper attempted to interrupt.
Far from the only commentator to slam Adams, many conservatives have mocked the former mayor for his incompetence and for his dramatic loss to self-described socialist Zorhan Mamdani, who took office at the start of the new year.
Starting off his hilarious commentary, Cohen began by blasting Adams. “Guys, watching the final moments of Mayor Adams’ chaotic [term]. Are we going on a De Blasio style? I just want to say, I mean, he got his pardon. I’ve seen this happen. I’ve seen this happen.”
Still not done hammering away, he drunkenly added, “No, I’m just saying, great, you got your pardons. Go off. We’ll, we’ll….fiddle with what we have, with what you’ve left us with. Thing with you and mayors, man, go dance away. Help yourself.”
Battering away at the embattled former mayor, the co-host continued his unclear comments. He jeered, “We will see you at zero bond, and you’ve got, yeah, we’ll see you at 12:35. Don’t be late. We’ll see you there. You got the pardon? Okay? Is this how we’re entering 20…”
Making a concession, he added, “No, I just want to say no. Guys, Mayor Adams did a good job with the rats, right? You did it. You did it. Didn’t you, honestly? But I will say this, I think he may have dented the population.”
Correcting himself, he concluded his remarks sarcastically, saying, “Oh no. I love how quickly you do great work. He got rid of some of the rats. No, no, the rat population has, yeah,…. There may be less. Well, I guess what it is, 2026 and there are less rats, fewer rats. Anyway, that was awesome.”

Despite his alleged success with controlling the rat population, many criticized Adams for a crime wave that ripped through his city. Despite this issue, New York City Mayor Eric Adams defended subway safety, claiming crime has dropped significantly and urging people to stop saying it’s up to them.
Defending his horrible record, Adams claimed,” We’re down and crime in the subway system folks, for the first quarter. We’re down. We’re down 24% in March, we’re down in February. Can we please stop saying we’re up in crime and our subway system? We are not, we are down in crime in the subway system.”
Continuing his tenous argument, he continued, “If we go back to, I don’t know if it was March of 2022, committed to cardinal sin and said, perception is playing into this. You know, everyone blasted me, ‘Oh, you out of touch. It’s not reality.’ I said it back then. I always knew from the days of being a transit cop. The perception can override this so these guys can bring crime down to zero.”
