The LA Dodgers decided to host the Catholicism-mocking drag group, the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” during a Pride Night event in June. Their decision drew a huge amount of backlash from the Christian faithful, particularly members of the Catholic faith. The team then decided to host “Faith Night” in late-July to appease at least some of the Christians infuriated by the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” invite.
Among those who appeared was Christian actor Chris Pratt, who used the opportunity to speak about his faith and about his son. Commenting on Jack, his 10-year-old son, Pratt jokes that the loud noises had destroyed his hearing but that Jack is healthy and wonderful, saying, “I’m so blessed to say that he’s wonderful. He’s a great young man. He’s amazing. My Apple Watch told me that I wasn’t allowed to see him and subject myself to those decibels for too long, suffered temporary hearing, I think it was described. But nonetheless, God gave us a healthy beautiful, wonderful, young man.” Watch that here:

And, commenting on his faith, Pratt said, “It has truly made the difference in my life. It has grounded me in a way that I honestly could never have been grounded. I live in this crazy world with all you folk and I see the weirdest stuff in Hollywood. And I’m really grateful I have that anchor. Jesus has been after me my whole life.”

Posting about the event on Twitter, Pratt included a few photos and videos and said, “What a day! Jack and I got to hit the mound together, eat our bodyweight in Dodger Dogs and delivered the game opening announcement! Thank you @ClaytonKersh22 for asking me to throw yesterday’s first pitch for faith and family day, what an honor! ⚾️ Let’s go @Dodgers!”

Jack Pratt has some vision and leg problems from a brain bleed he suffered when born two months prematurely. Pratt’s first wife, Anna Faris, wrote in her 2017 memoir Unqualified, that “The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled.”
Anna has also said that Pratt is a good father, saying, “I think that being a father is very meaningful and rewarding to Chris. He’s a great dad. He’s a little more serious than he was before. It forces your hand. You really have to become an adult.”
it is unlikely that this event will do much to staunch the hatred and disdain directed at the Dodgers since the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” invitation. Nationals Pitcher Trevor Williams summed up how many felt at the time when he said, in a statement posted to social media, “To invite and honor a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion, and the religion of over 4 million people in Los Angeles county alone, undermines the values of respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization.”
