Extremely Liberal Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson lashed out in a fiery response to threats from America’s newly appointed and tough-as-nails Border Czar, Tom Homan. Homan warned he’d prosecute Johnson if he interfered with planned ICE deportation raids in Chicago. In a CNN podcast interview, Mayor Johnson fiercely defended Chicago’s sanctuary policies, calling Homan’s threat reprehensible.
Mayor Johnson has doubled down on refusing to deport illegal immigrants from the city, drawing direct fire from Tom Homan and the Trump administration due to their shielding of illegal immigrants. Johnson’s resistance comes as the Trump administration intensifies immigration enforcement nationwide, making Chicago a key battleground.
Tom Homan is not putting up with Mayor Johnson’s various outbursts and will not let the liberal judge stop federal law. Homan told a group of Chicago Republicans, “We’re going to start right here in Chicago, Illinois. If your Chicago mayor doesn’t want to help, he can step aside. But if he impedes us—if he knowingly harbors or conceals an illegal alien–I will prosecute him.”
The mayor defended his policies, saying they prevent local law enforcement from behaving like ICE agents, but maintained that the city is open to harboring illegal immigrants unless they have a warrant. In the CNN interview, Mayor Johnson said, “So for 40 years, the city of Chicago has had a welcoming city policy. And what that policy just simply states is that our local law enforcement will not dub as federal agents … Essentially, we’re not going to stand in the way and impede cooperation with the federal agencies because we do cooperate with them on a regular basis.”
Pressed further by CNN’s Audie Cornish, Mayor Johnson stood his ground, explaining the city’s welcoming city policy. He continued, “We’re not going to stand in the way and impede cooperation with federal agencies because we do cooperate with them on a regular basis … We’re just not going to have our local law enforcement behave as ICE agents because what it does is simply breaks down the trust between community members and local law enforcement, and there’s enough for them to do already.”
During the CNN interview, Johnson further criticized the Trump administration, calling their approach antagonistic and harmful to the city’s residents. To further his point, he said, “If the federal government and the Trump administration, in particular, wants to have animus in disdain towards the people of Chicago and the things at work, of course, we’re going to resist that.”
Mayor Johnson has a history of explosive rhetoric to command attention; in a recent press conference, he made claims that America resembles an alternate present where the Confederacy won the Civil War. He, unfortunately, said, “Here’s what I’m getting at this oversight committee of all the things that they want to have sight over, they should look at the White House right now, that White House is being run in one of the most raggedy forms of government that I’ve ever seen. If anybody is questioning whether or not what our country would look like had the Confederacy won. There should be no question.”

The atrocious comments of Mayor Johnson continued. Following his previous marks, he added, “Look in your front yard. We have a president right now who is obstructing his responsibilities. That should be very clear based upon the Constitution; he is rejecting the Constitution of the United States of America. And if they want to have a real discussion about undocumented individuals who are criminals, they should look at the very individuals who enslave my people and colonize this land.
